maptools::sunriset() daylight savings to stardard time change
Hello all, After beating my head against the wall for a few hours, I give up. I have two problems. 1. If I use seq() to generate a POSIXct series that crosses a daylight savings to stardard time change I get two values for the first day of change. The time change is Nov 6,2011. The value for Nov 7 turns into 23:00 on Nov 6, thus two values for Nov 6. (see below) So I put a time value (noon) into the sequence, that did give me a correct date sequence. 2. When using that modified da...

CentOS + GNU Zebra
Hi folks, At work, we're considering the idea to replace the presente router with a stardard box with CentOS as a SO and GNU Zebra as a routing software. The line is a 4Mbps SDSL. ?What do you think about Zebra and what are your experiencies with it? Any feedback will be so appreciated. TIA.

The integration of the square of the c.d.f of normal distribution
Assume F(x) is the cdf of stardard normal c.d.f, and want to get the integration of F(x)^2 over (-infinite, +infinite). So whats the value of this integration? And is there some function to achieve this? Thanks. -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help mailing list -- Read http://ww...

Calculating Goodman-Kurskal's gamma using delta method

Setting offdelay and ondelay in Smart-UPS 1500 RM units
...irmware revision: 1.5 Manufacturing date: 2003/06/03 The unit can be monitored with NUT, no problem at this. But when turning it off an back on, the "offdelay" and "ondelay" parameters from "ups.conf" aren't honored. This unit uses a different HID path than the stardard one for sending a "load.on.delay" command. As the driver (usbhid-ups) can't find this command, it has to revert to rebooting the UPS. The HID paths involved are: - "UPS.PowerSummary.DelayBeforeStartup": the standard command for triggering a "load.on.delay" in USB...

Instant search for R documentation
Hi, I just wanted to share with you that we made a website over the weekend that allows "instant search" of the R documentation on CRAN, see: www.Rdocumentation.org. It's a first version, so any feedback/comments/criticism most welcome. Best regards, Jonathan [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

RAID10
Hi All, I am looking at ZFS and I get that they call it RAIDZ which is similar to RAID 5, but what about RAID 10? Isn''t a RAID 10 setup better for data protection? So if I have 8 x 1.5tb drives, wouldn''t I: - mirror drive 1 and 5 - mirror drive 2 and 6 - mirror drive 3 and 7 - mirror drive 4 and 8 Then stripe 1,2,3,4 Then stripe 5,6,7,8 How does one do this with ZFS?

future update to loess
...have support for local polynomial degree 3, better control over the number of cells in the KD tree, and perhaps a better solution in higher predictor dimension. I see that Prof. Ripley was responsible for originally porting loess to R as part of the modreg library, which has been absorbed into the stardard stats library. My first question is, what would be the preferred way to package this update? As an updated version of modreg, or as a new standalone implementation of loess? Or something else entirely? Second, I'd like to hear what additional features or modifications other loess users would l...

Render :action for moved templates
I have two actions, that I want to use the same template. However, the template is stored in a non-stardard location (a subdirectory under views/<controller>). My original code looked like: def edit_member <do stuff here> render :template => "path/to/template/edit_member" end def add_member <do stuff here> render :action => :edit_member end The intent her...

ordering in list.files
Hi R, My csv files are stored in the order, '1abc.csv', '2def.csv', '3ghi.csv', '10files.csv' in a folder. When I read this into R from list.files (R command: x=list.files("Z:/CSV/fold",full.names=F), I don't get the same order, instead I get the order as "10files.csv" "1abc.csv" "2def.csv" "3ghi.csv". glm code bug (PR#224)
Peter, There is a clear and simple bug in glm() that I have noticed in 0.64.2 (Windows and Unix) but may have been present in earlier versions. The function starts as follows: > glm function (formula, family = gaussian, data = list(), weights = NULL, subset = NULL, na.action = na.fail, start = NULL, offset = NULL, control = glm.control(...), model = TRUE, method =

pxelinux and startrom.com
Greetings Luis, I saw a thread about Startrom.com and startrom.o that had your name attached... I was wondering if you had a moment to comment on an issue that I have. I have a Linux server that is our corporate PXE server. It is set up in a logical folder structure so that a host can be pointed to boot a variety of different OS's (DOS, Linux loaders, Windows PE). Here is in my dilemma,

xen + centos + areca raid issues
I am trying to run a new server with centos + xen using centos xen packages. After installation, we had to install a hardware raid card (areca) on the machine, and thus reload the os. It so happens the drivers shipped aren''t compatible with xen kernel, so i was forced to compile xen from source to compile areca drivers. Now with system running under compiled xen, i cannot boot my old

[PATCH V2 net-next 0/6] virtio-net: Add SCTP checksum offload support
Now that we have SCTP offload capabilities in the kernel, we can add them to virtio as well. First step is SCTP checksum. We need a new freature in virtio to negotiate this support since SCTP is excluded with the stardard checksum and requires a little bit extra. This series proposes VIRTIO_NET_F_SCTP_CSUM feature bit. As the "little bit extra", the kernel uses a new bit in the skb (skb->csum_not_inet) to determine whether to use standard inet checksum or the SCTP CRC32c checksum. This bit has to be...

Best 1.5TB drives for consumer RAID?
Which consumer-priced 1.5TB drives do people currently recommend? I had zero read/write/checksum errors so far in 2 years with my trusty old Western Digital WD7500AAKS drives, but now I want to upgrade to a new set of drives that are big, reliable and cheap. As of Jan 2010 it seems the price sweet spot is the 1.5TB drives. As I had a lot of success with Western Digital drives I thought I would
