The future of Shorewall
...contact Paul.
For now, Paul will retain sole write access to the Shorewall code base in
CVS; if you have patches that you wish to submit for inclusion in the
standard release, please post them on the Shorewall Development list and
Paul will give them his careful consideration.
Two other Shorewall stalwarts, Alex Wilms and Jerry Voneau have volunteered
to keep the support fires burning (as has Cristian Rodriguez). I encourage
each and every one of you who know something about Shorewall to contribute
your free time to helping others on the User''s List. I assure you that I

speex over radio and homemade hardware

Most packet systems, such as PPP and SLIP, want at least 9600 baud to play
ball. Traditionally, low bandwidth systems like those are just open
streams. The protocols built on top of those - old stalwarts like YModem/G,
Kermit, and so forth - do admittedly generally chunk data, but the headers
inbetween chunks are often no more than a CRC-32 and a byte allowing
out-of-stream escaping or very simple commands.

Cygwin Rsync 2.5.6 over SSH hangs on Win2k->Win2k
When using Cygwin Rsync 2.5.6/OpenSSH 3.6.1 for copying files from
Win2k->Win2k, I get 2 or 3 hung processes on the receiving-side out of about
every 50 runs. These hung processes cause the system to be unable to
reboot(?!), requiring a hard reset. Killing the processes allows a graceful
reboot every time. I'm currently running both ssh and rsync as services on
the recieving side.
