Permissions and security
...e trouble setting up the system permissions to be secure. Here my basic setup. 2 groups: users and staff /home/user should have the permissions user:users rwx------ /mnt/staff should have the permissions user:staff rwxrwx--- For the last one users should'nt have access. I test with fx.: user=staffuser, primarygroup: users, member of group: staff If i setup the permissions to the above suggested i can create files but can't change them. ...#39;m so happy to have finally dumped our windoze machine. i'm running samba 2.2.5-SuSE as a file server, WINS, and as the PDC. all ±50 windows2k users are happy. my smb.conf is pretty raw and basic, but now i need to allow 2 users to have more control to the /home/server tree than the regular staffusers. basically, these users need to have full control for file maintainance; moving, deleting, etc. chores. in attempting to do this would it be appropriate to add the users into "admin users =" line? my smb.conf file is below; [global] netbios name = pc01 ; for backwards compatibility wit...

Samba + ACLs: Can’t add group write permissions
Hi there, I?ve been trying to get my head around a problem I have with Samba. I?ve set up Samba 3.6.13 on a Raspberry Pi with Arch Linux ARM on it and let it serve a couple of folders from an attached external ext4 drive mounted to /srv/cifs (of course with the "acl" option enabled).
