Best mkfs.ext2 performance options on RAID5 in CentOS 4.2
I can't seem to get the read and write performance better than approximately 40MB/s on an ext2 file system. IMO, this is horrible performance for a 6-drive, hardware RAID 5 array. Please have a look at what I'm doing and let me know if anybody has any suggestions on how to improve the performance... Samba/Winbind issue
Hi, I have an issue with Samba using winbind. We have Active Directory groups with underscores (for example sambagroup_underscore). But an underscore in Samba (Unix) is a space in Active Directory. So my question is what character is used in Samba (Unix) for an underscore in Active Directory? Or are there other solutions to solve this? I would be very happy if you can help me! Met

64 bit hardware and filesystem size limit
We recently bought a 32-bit Xeon system with a 12-port 3Ware RAID card and a dozen 500GB drives. We wanted to create 4TB drive arrays; however, we soon discovered that there is about a 2.2TB drive array size limit on 32-bit hardware. Does that sound correct? Would replacing the 32-bit mobo/cpu with a 64-bit mobo/cpu allow us to use drive arrays larger than 2.2TB? Thanks.

Replacing matching values by related values
I am trying to replace values of a vector (consisting of 15 values) by a value that is related to a matching value in a dataset (consisting of 17 rows). Here's an example The vector: v <- c(f,a,e,d,m,o,e,f,i,n,e,i,b,a,o) The dataset's columns consist of the following values d[,1] <- c(a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q) d[,2] <- 1:17 So I want to end up with a vector that

deleting partition does not effect superblock?
Hi, I am using kernel 2.6.15.4. On my system, I first created a partition with EXT3 and put some data on it. Later, I deleted the partition, and re-created another partition with the same starting block number and a higher ending block number. I intended to format it with another filesystem, but surprisingly (or maybe just to me), the superblock of the partition had not changed. I could still

glm analysis repeated for 900 variables
Dear R users, Could you help my with the following problem? I want to repeat a glm analysis with 2 independent variables for all 900 variables (snps) in my data set. So, I want to check whether snp1 has a different effect on my outcome variable in patients and controls(phenotype). And repeat that for snp2 to snp900. Is there an easy way to get a summary of the data, e.g. a list of P values of all

(Andere applicaties zoals notepad, wordpad, freecell, etc werkten perfect..)

CentOS 3.1: sshd and pam /etc/security/limits.conf file descriptor settings problem
Why can't non-uid 0 users have more than 1024 file descriptors when logging in via ssh? I'm trying to allow a user to have a hard limit of 8192 file descriptors(system defaults to 1024) via the following setting in /etc/security/limits.conf: jdoe hard nofile 8192 But when jdoe logs in via ssh and does 'ulimit -Hn' he gets '1024' as a response. If he tries to

Max hard disks supported by XCP 1.6
Hello, I would like to use nas4free under xcp 1.6. I install it under full HVM using "other install media". Now I am attaching 4 hdds as external disks. The vm sees at most two hdds, I suppose because of bios support (1 boot + 1 cdrom + 2 hdds= 4 hdds). I need to use more disks, is it possible? If not, it seems to me a serious limit. Mario

Rsync backups over the internet
All I am use rsync to backup a large filesystem over the internet. I do an incremental backup of the 2 file systems once a day to keep an offsite backup. However, this backup takes about 60 minutes. Are there some tweaks I can do to speed up the backup? Here is the command I run via cron every day: rsync --exclude-from=/home/backups/rsync/attachments-exclude.lst --delete -ave ssh

Hello all, I don''t know if it is a silly question but I am really unsure. I informed myself about the OpenBuildService project which was initialized by OpenSUSE. Now I am really interested in setting up an OpenBuildService VM where I can package some programs and so on for example own software and software I wan''t to use on a few systems which have for example newer versions

Certificate system
Hi all, Can anybody inform me wether the "RedHat Certificate System" or actually a CentOS equivalent is available for CentOS. Just skimmed on a download site through the RPM's for 5.3 and I couldn't find it. According to their pressrelease, it the code should be gpl, allthough I can't find any rpm for RH, FC or Centos. It seems that this is one of the few CA-packages for

Is anyone using Isilon OneFS in combination with Samba with AD authentication ?
Hi, We are in the process of testing a migration of our current setup which contains Samba 4 as Classic DC with LDAP backend, Isilon OneFS bulk storage serving NFS/SMB shares and Windows/Mac/Linux clients to a more modern Samba 4 AD. We need to migrate to Samba AD because of Windows 10 and macos 10.13.x (and for several other reasons). But we run into an issue with authenticating the clients

smb_panic sys_setgroups failed
Hi, We have Samba version 3.5.4 and we are using winbind (Active Directory) for authorisation. The issue is that for most of the members of a Samba share it is not possible to connect this Samba share. This because of the error below. It seems to be that the number of Active Directory groups where this Samba member belongs to is too high. UNIX token of user 588109 Primary group is 10049 and
