Workstation joins domain but user cannot log in SMB-LDAP

I got to the point where things should fall together but they don't...
What is working:
On the server:
Anonymous checking what is available works:
smbclient -L localhost
Password: <EMPTY>
Anonymous login successful
Domain=[SRECENGINEERING] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.28a]

I was also able to succesfully join a laptop to the domain.
The system even shows up in LDAP
ldapsearch -x -b dc=srecengineering,dc=int | grep lpt

OpenLDAP integration
I've followed the OpenLDAP + SAMBA Domain Controller tutorial
step-by-step: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=640760
And after long hours, and enless googling, I've yet to find a solution.
LDAP works great
SAMBA works great.
But the intergration between them don't work.
Here is the samba log:

Users not able to change password
Hi list,
My brand new samba network is working pretty good, ironing out some
glitches.
Win XP users cannot change their password.
I use SaMBa as a domain-controller with an LDAP backend.
A stripped down version of the config is below.
I set minimum password length to 8, trying to change the password to a 7
char long gives me the messages that the password does not meet
