rterm.exe and graphics windows
...g rterm.exe to develop R scripts in my preferred editor
(not emacs) by sending the command
rterm.exe --save < %f
where the editor substitutes the filename for %f. This works wonderfully,
and the editor captures the output in a process buffer! One drawback is
that even though rterm (unlike sqpe) can start a graphics window, it is
closed at the end of the script, so I never get to look at the graph. I
have been writing the graph instead to a png file and using system() to
open a graphics viewer from the script, but I would like to avoid that
kludge. Can I force the graphics window to...

slow start-up
Dear all,
I'm working with R 1.2.2 on win98 (256Mb RAM) with ESS 5.1.18.
It happens that the start-up is very slow. I don't know exactly how to measure, but with a simple watch I recorded 15 seconds, while the startup of S+ 2000 (Sqpe+4 under ESS) takes around 3 seconds.
Tha fact is that sometimes it takes almost a minute (58.30 sec recorded) for the prompt to appear! And ESS gives me an error

ESS with R and S-PLUS under Windows 9x/NT.
...the R
executables won't run from the NT command line, yet.
-- This may depend on your shell setting for NTEmacs.
On the S-PLUS front, if you have
(setenv "ALWAYS_PROMPT" "T")
the s+3 inferior mode works right out of the box once you set the
executable to be SHOME/cmd/sqpe.exe. This gives you everything except
access to graphsheets. And my DDE solutions give modest success if
graphsheets are needed.

* ESS[S]: If you have other versions of S-Plus on your Windows
computer, such as S-Plus 6.1 or S-Plus 4.5, ESS will find them and
create appropriate functions, such as `M-x splus61', for calling
the console version (Sqpe) inside an emacs buffer. By default only
programs installed in the default location will be found, but see
ess-SHOME-versions for ways to find other versions of S-Plus.
