Samba and Network Neighborhood
Hi All,
I turned my Debian box into a file server on my home network. What
happened is now no boxen except the localhost shows up in Network
Neighborhood on the Windows boxen. All shares work fine and if I search
for the Linux server, I find it. Has anyone ever run into this and
resolved it? Three days of Googling have left me with the same problem
and a headache. Thanks.

NFS. When searching for an answer, I came across comments such as "NFS

Running on RH 8.0, samba 2.2.7a. (Planning on upgrading eventually)
Anyway, one user for some reason, cannot access the share through his
network neighborhood icon.

Why does simple smb.conf demand password?
I am trying to setup a simple Samba server using the instructions in the O'Reilly book
"Using Samba" first edition on a Slackware 9.1 system which uses Samba 2.2.8a.
The windows machine uses windows 98SE.
The instructions under Server Configuration starting page 93
and Disk Share Configuration starting page 96
had me setup a very simple smb.conf which should then appear in Network
