I just got a netbook. An Acer aspire one and I am completely new to linux. I have managed to install wine and I am trying to run spotify. It says there is a problem with audio drivers and can't produce a sound. Can anyone help? And keep it simple. I am very new to all this. Hi Many Windows apps uses a tray icon. ?There are a command or method to determine x and y corrds of that icon?. I want this to develop a notifier that shows a balloon "growing" from tray icon. Thanks in adavance :)

It seems like a record, but every single program I have tried to run under wine that is not included by default on the wine install (Simcity 4, Spotify and itunes) seems to crash 100% of the time (or in the case of itunes not work correct at all) I have the latest version of wine, and I'm wondering if I did something wrong that is causing wine to fail so horribly (I have Ubuntu 11.10) Please help Thanks a lot in advance!!

I am trying to install spotify with Wine on Ubuntu. I get an errormessage stating that "spotifyinstaller.exe" is not marked as executable. I have some problems with sound quality in Wine when running Spotify. The quality is not as good as it is on Windows. There is a slight distortion (I guess that's the word) which doesn't exist on Windows. I've tried with OSSV4 and ALSA but it's still there so maybe the problem is in Wine. When Wine scales images the result looks much worse than when Windows do the same. Couldn't this be fixed with a better scaling algorithm?

...ly with OSS4 under LMDE, and I just switched to fedora which uses WINE 1.3.33 (a much more current version than what's in debian repos) and there's no OSS support?! Every time I try to force OSS it says "no driver" under audio. I don't want pulseaudio or ALSA on my system and spotify was working beautifully with OSS4 before. I tried looking for alsa => OSS wrappers but it looks like they only go the other way around. OSS is NOT obsolete.. just the free version that's in everyone's repos. Is there any way around this, or is this a bug?

...iki/DirectSound Both seem to suggest that DirectSound is past its sell-by-date for Windows 7 and because its running emulation mode these kind of glitches are possible. Is my interpretation correct? Will we get glitch-free audio playback if we recode our app to use WASAPI / MMDEVAPI ? I notice Spotify plays perfectly under WINE.
