The basic error is:

I'm hitting an issue for which there doesn't seem to be any
documentation anywhere.
When I go to print a test page from the Windows Server 2012 box, I see
in my logs:

CUPS and Samba without authorization
Perhaps one of you could lend us a hand with this...
We are trying to setup an open access print server using RedHat 7.3 and
Cups 1.15.
We are seeing the following error message on some of the log files related
to some Win2K users:

4.1.5, spoolss_connect_to_client and negotiated protocol
Hi @all,
experimenting with 4.1.5 and printing I have messages like this in the log:
spoolss_connect_to_client: machine X didn't negotiate NT protocol.
machine X is a windows 7 machine.
I have following definitions in smb.conf:

Admin Printers and Faxes from Windows XP

Samba is printing through CUPS and the printing works fine.
when i click on "Printers and Faxes" froma windows xp machine, it takes
about 30-60 seconds to show the list and the samba logs show:

this change we used to install the drivers on each client machine. When it
was set up this way there were no speed problems.

I've traced this back in the source to the "spoolss_connect_to_client"
call in rpc_server/srv_spoolss_nt.c. It seems this is used to reply back
to the client with printing info.
However, in our environment, such connections typically fail, as we
disable the "Server" service on NT/W2K clients as much as possible. In

Printing: Request to make return connection to client optional samba 3.5.x
...return-connection lead to delay in printing and sometimes to delays in
printer-properties dialog. It's not possible for us to ask clients to
open their firewalls, we need a solution on print-server.
What helps is to modify samba source as follows:
in file rpc_server/srv_spoolss_nt.c:
function spoolss_connect_to_client:
do nothing but return False;
Unfortunately a modified samba-version is not welcome here politically,
so if this feature of optionally (configurable in smb.conf) not making
the return-connection could be built into next version of samba in the
3.5.x line it would be very helpful.
