The boss will discharge me, I spoiled the system. HELP!
I have a mixture network with WinXP machines and IRIX (UNIX of Silicon Graphics) machines. In the machine with IRIX (O2) there was an old version of samba. It worked well.
But recently I've downloaded. I installed this new version, and I spoiled the system. Now I don't know if I have to reconfigure the smb.conf only or if I have to install more pakages or if I have to reconfigure several files... CAN ANYONE HELP ME???

Pre-built kernel 2.6.20 for CentOS 5?
Can anyone point me towards a pre-built kernel 2.6.20 for CentOS 5?
I need the later version to run Yosemite backup. I thought I was being
clever and installed a Fedora kernel and it worked 99%, sadly the bit
that didn't was the tape device which rather spoiled things.

minor quirk in rnbinom
I don't want to spoil a nice joke, and recognise it's not a bug as it does
have the intended effect, but the error message that is returned if rnbinom
is given four parameters is slightly obscure:
> rnbinom(0.5,0.5,0.5,0.5)
Error in rnbinom(0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5) : couldn't find function "error"

Package Information Site?
Greetings all-
Over the years, I've become incredibly spoiled by 'packages.debian.org' which allows me to search for a package, view it's description, download it, see dependencies, see similar packages, etc...
Does such a site or resource exist for CentOS?

Logging-in takes 1 hour when changing computers
Hello all,
I've got a simple active directory server set-up with 5 computers and
about 5 users which works reasonably well, but recently, when an user
changes to a different computer, it takes about a hour for the user to
log in. However, future log-ins on the same computer is pretty much
instant, but the exact same problems occurs when the user changes
computers - even to one

ext3/kjournald overhead
Hi,
I've recently installed ext3 on an 800MB RAID5
(software) array. I am running RedHat Linux 7.1 with
the Linux kernel 2.4.12-ac3 on a 1GHz Pentium system
with 128MB RAM. I am seeing a significant amount of
write operation slowdown when running ext3 (and
kjournald), as opposed to my old ext2. The problem
seems to be associated with the times that kjournald
is accessing the disk. At

Fake Conferences CSCI and WORLDCOMP of Hamid Arabnia
...committee members of CSCI’14 to avoid any special
attention. He knows that if his name is given any
special attention then researchers immediately notice
that the conference is fake due to his “track record”
with WORLDCOMP. Hamid Arabnia (Guru of Fake
Conferences and champion of academic scam) spoiled the
reputations and careers of many authors who submitted
papers to his infamous WORLDCOMP for more than a
decade and he is now ready to do the same using CSCI.
Interestingly, CSCI is scheduled to be held at the
same venue where WORLDCOMP was held until 2012. CSCI
has no general chair. It ha...

Ruby at O''Reilly Rough Cuts
Not sure if this is old news or not, but it would appear that both the
Ruby Cookbook and a Rails book are now available for purchase at
O''Reilly Rough Cuts (something akin to PragProg''s beta book program):

http://my.safaribooksonline.com/?mode=roughcuts&srchtext=ROUGHCUTS
I haven''t tried them yet, but it definitely seems worth checking out.

CRAN indices out of whack (for at least macOS)

Depends: R (>= 2.4.1)
Suggests: knitr, rmarkdown
Built: R 3.4.3; x86_64-apple-darwin15.6.0; 2018-01-29 05:21:06 UTC; unix
Archs: digest.so.dSYM
yet the _same directory_ only has:

I presume this is a temporary accident.
We are all spoiled by you all providing such a wonderfully robust and
well-oiled service---so again big THANKS for that--but today something is out
of order.

Best dom0 for GPU pass through?
...ian Squeeze, but I
wonder why that is being chosen rather than say Ubuntu 12.04 which has
a much newer stock kernel? Does anyone have a pointer for a great
guide to get the latest kernel and Xen versions running? (Presumably I
am going to need to compile them from scratch)
I''ve also been spoiled with XenCenter for management (although I''ve
used ''xe'' a lot), is there anything available of similar quality for
just Xen base?
Thanks!

C7 Xfce group
I am working with Centos-arm which right now only has the gnome and kde
desktops.
I am spoiled with using Xfce on all my Fedora systems (MUCH longer
battery life on my notebook, for example).? I like its simplicity.
I see from messages here that mainline C7 does have the Xfce desktop.
Can someone give me a list of rpms that make up the group, so I can try
starting with the minimal image...

strings spanning multiple lines
I'd like to specify strings spanning multiple lines (ie too long to
fit in a single line without spoiling pretty-printed R code). I tried
the following way:
> a <- "multiple \
+ lines"
but
> print(a)
[1] "multiple \nlines"
How could I avoid the extra linebreak ("\n")?

OT: Evolution folder location
...ca '93). For quite some time, I
have enjoyed keeping each of my mail accounts' folders in totally
separate directory trees. In Eudora you do this by specifying the
data locatoin as part of the startup: '<program location>/eudora.exe
<data location>'
So I am quite spoiled. But there is no Eudora support in Linux/CentOS.
So where are Evolution folders kept?
And Can I do something to have each account in a separate directory structure.
Oh, some more about Eudora, since perhaps v4:
If you run multiple personalities in a copy of Eudora, all that mail
is in a singl...

Yum loses memory when kernel is upgraded
...addresses for this to succeed).
But after that, I noticed that yum did not remember anymore, what packages
were already installed. It seems that the something happens to the rpm
databases. I think this is connected to kernel upgrades - that is, every
time I update the kernel, the rpm databases are spoiled... (or something).
Right now both of these commands:
yum list installed
rpm --query -a
...produce identical results (for practical purposes). Neither list contains
for example amavisd-new, which I'm sure I have installed.
Does someone know a way to prevent the "memory loss"...

mac wine gamepad issues
I finally found a way to run epsxe on mac os without virtualization! Hurray! For that I would like to thank the Wine development team. Now onto my question.
I cannot get epsxe to recognize my gamepad, yet it will let me assign keys on the keyboard. Any ideas?
