Changing AD domain short name (aka workgroup)
Hi all,
Is it possible to change the workgroup name of an AD hosted by Samba? Is it
sufficient to just change "workgroup = " option on all DC and restart them?
or is this short name written also inside the DB itself?
Best regards,
mathias

Display problems with Freelance Graphics & Notes under Wine
I have been trying to use Freelance Graphics under Wine for a long time
(since Oct 2000 :), but I cannot seem to get the display stuff working
correctly. I always get text splattered over top of other text when
trying to view existing .PRZ files. This happens in both Freelance and
in Lotus Notes (when Notes is trying to display a file attachment of the
.prz persuasion).
A quick Google search

7960 straight through?
if i go off hook and dial 666 from an internal sipura spa-x000
(at extn 141), it rings straight through to extn 666.
using the same dialplan, from a cisco 7960 with 7.1 sip code
(at extn 142), i have to
go off hook
hit NewCall
punch 142 (or any valid extn in the dialplan)
hit Dial
then dial 666
wtf?

Samba3.0.2a, MS Office (Excel), Save problem.
...oup:113:rwx
group:domadm:rwx
mask::rwx
other::---
$ getfacl /home/users/bob/test/xyz_sales.xls
# file: home/users/bob/test/xyz_sales.xls
# owner: bob
# group: root
user::rw-
user:bob:rwx
group::rw-
group:domadm:rwx
mask::rwx
other::---
The only thing I can think of thats worth noting in the above splattering
of info is the acl on abc_sales.xls, the group:113:rwx, there is NO gid
113. A search of the LDAP directory AND of /etc/passwd reveals no gid 113,
and noone belonging to any gid 113. (maybe a clue?). (oh, and no, that acl
line wasn't there before Excel came along and screwed it).

vorbiscomment inconsistency
...this=that" to specify
tags on the commandline, consistent with oggenc. That displaces the
tag source file, so I'd suggest -f, consistent with at least some other
programs (although I can only think of tar, right now). I'd also
suggest that it use -o for an output filename rather than splattering
the second file on the commandline, which I would expect to suffer
exactly the same fate as the first file on the commandline, whatever
fate that may be. For example:
vorbiscomment -w -f commontags.txt this.ogg that.ogg
vorbiscomment -a -c "album=this" track1.ogg track2.ogg track3.ogg...

yum install to a portable location
I have googled, read the man page, and such.
What I am trying to do is install applications to a NFS mounted drive,
where the libraries and everything are locally installed on that
filesystem so that it is portable across servers (I have over 100
servers which each need specific applications installed via yum and we
do not want to install 100 copies).
We tried the yum relocate and it was not

Very confused with class
Hi all,
I am very confused with class.
I am looking at some weather data which I want to use as explanatory
variables in an lm. R has treated these variables as factors (i.e. with
different levels), whereas I want them treated as discretely measured
continuous variables. So I need to reassign the class of these
variables, right?
Indeed, doing
class(southwest$pressure)

want to set a var in sip.conf
i have extensions in locations across a number of telco area codes.
when someone in seattle picks up and dials 91234567, it would be
nice to transform it to 92061234567. i would prefer not to have
an extension context per area code. it would be cool to be able
to set a variable in the sip.conf bit for each phone with it's
geographic default area code.
or other folk may have a better hack.

ext2/ext3 directory handling
I have just been thru rebuilding a server that had been suffering
severe performance problems. I transferred the partitions to another
hard drive, copying into freshly formatted filesystems. This made
a HUGE difference in performance. One key directory structure
stores email messages in an structure where there is a directory
for each mail account, and the messages are stored in

Outlook 2013/2010 nightmare
..., and continues to be
awesome as always.
Under the user's ${HOME} directory they end up with a lovely 'mail'
directory and all of the e-mail client folders live in harmony under there.
This weekend I am helping a customer cut over his customer from legacy
POP based e-mail uses with splatterings of Outlook 2010 and 2013
throughout the company, to using Linux with IMAP in the setup as
described above as per my standard configs.
The issue starts when you add an IMAP user to the Outlook client and
upon opening it, initially, it tries to find a "Sent" Items folder under
IMAP to...
