Announce: Summer Program in Data Analysis (SPIDA) 2012
The Institute for Social Research (ISR) and its Statistical
Consulting Service (SCS) at York University are pleased to
announce our Summer Program In Data Analysis (SPIDA) for
2012. The Program runs from May 24th to June 1st, 2012.This
year?s Program focuses on the theory and practice of linear
models and mixed [or multilevel] models, as they are applied
to hierarchical and longitudinal data. Please see the

R 2.13.1 can't find package binaries on R-Forge
...t open: HTTP status was '404 Not Found'
Warning in download.packages(pkgs, destdir = tmpd, available = available, :
download of package 'p3d' failed
The list of packages I install this way is:
special <- c("p3d", "patchDVI", "spacemakeR", "spida")
install.packages(special,repos="http://R-Forge.R-project.org")
Is this just an R-Forge problem? The source packages are there, but not
the windows binaries. The log files
are uninformative:

Fwd: Re: [friday topic]: what exactly is statistical computing
This is a very fascinating discussion topic. I find I run into
some fundamental differences in interpretation of the phrase "statistical
computing". I think of it as writing programs or functions, such as R or packages
in R, and of understanding the numerical analysis behind these functions.
I exclude USING computer programs, such as R, for data analysis from my

negative binomial in GEE
Dear R-help,
I was recently wanting to use GEE with the negative binomial "family". It
seems that this is lacking in the otherwise excellent implementations of
the GEE methodology ( packages: gee, yags, geepack).
I would have thought it a simple step to allow the creation of a family,
i.e providing the link function (log mu) and the variance function (mu +
mu^2/theta) , assuming theta

standard errors for glm
Hi,
I'm currently using biglm package to compute GLM outputs on a very large
dataset. But no function computes standard erros of predictions. I look in
what is done in R, namely in the function predict.glm.R in stats package.
In this function, we call predict.lm to compute the standard errors (line
51). The code of predict.lm (in lm.R) is very hard to understand.
I wonder if there is any

sambaNTPassword does NOT write to master LDAP when machines auto change the values
We have SuSE SLES9 servers with LDAP master/slave replication (24
replications/BDC's)
All working fine -joining domain etc.
The problem I am having is PC's at remote sites (BDC) with a local
replica (OpenLDAP) periodically change the
sambaNTPassword/sambaLMPassword on there own and write to the local LDAP
server and do NOT follow the referral to the master.
I have written scripts to

ldap auth (with user and domain a different places)
Hi,
I am trying to use dovecot with my virtual-hosting setup. I have
all users in LDAP like uid=user,dc=domain.tld,o=myorganization for
the user with the mail-address user at domain.tld. This is also the
username that user should use for login, but it is nowhere in the
ldap-db in this form together, just user and domain at their own
places. Is it possible to authenticate with
