Mmn, that didn't work. I dd'd the latest Fedora Live iso onto a USB
drive, put it into a brand spanking new Dell Latitude E7470, hit F12
at Dell logo and got "Selected boot device failed". Do I need to make
it bootable using fdisk or some such?

Resources and pretty URLS
Using the brand-spanking new map.resources for REST goodness, is there a
way to pass in additional parameters, or do I have to go back to
standard routes. For example, is there a way to use the map.resources
to response to urls like:
/blog/2005/02/03/ => :controller => :blog, :action => :show, :year =>...

FCC Rules VoIP Must Be Tappable
...or whatever right to enforce it),
there's the technical aspect.
Suppose i provide VoIP services using Asterisk, and i fall under the
incidence of the FCC ruling and i have to provide a tap to the guys in
the black helicopters.
What are the guidelines, what should i do to ensure i won't get spanked
because i obstructed the justice or some such.
More precisely, what config bits must be put in place to make sure
there's always an easy way, with Asterisk, to tap into arbitrary calls?

New code: proposed release?
...ow they are converted to <td> </td>.
=====
Otherwise, RedCloth passes all its previous unit tests and all the
new ones I wrote to test the features I added. (I also make running
unit tests a lot nicer BTW: try rake test).
So I propose we make a release with all these new spanking features.
Are there any pressing bugs that should stop us from doing so? What
version number should we go for? The ultra-conservative 3.0.5
release... the conservative 3.1.0 release... the crack-addict 4.0.0
release... the idiot-savant 1.2.3 release... the Bill Gates RedCloth

Simple Question
Brand spanking new to Dovecot. Trying to move over to it, got a few
simple questions.
1) Is there any documentation on the .customflags file? Not sure what
this is for...
2) I'd like to make a directory for every user NOT be writable. Meaning

TDM31B and Zaptel: FXO port not recognized?
I have a brand-spanking new TDM31B (3 FXS, 1 FXO) and when I start wcfxs
(the only module that recognizes the card) from Zaptel 0.9.1 I get:

installed app not in app menu; emule ports questions
Hello,
I'm brand spanking new with Linux and all of this. I've just recently installed Ubuntu, and I installed Wine.
I've just now attempted to install the latest version of emule into Wine, and it was easier than I expected. One thing though-emule didn't get added to the applications/wine/programs menu. H...

Performance (cough cough) Poor: Instant Rails
Hi,
In short, RoR is brand spanking new to me, I set up Instant Rails (if
you can call copying files "setup") and made my own simple app via
scaffold. One table, 11 cols, 100 rows. All is well, except when I view
the data, it takes 5-10 seconds to show the page, 5-10 more seconds to
get the edit page and so on. Going...

render :partial + redirect_to :controller
This is of course disallowed, which I discovered only after nearly
completing my spanking new ajaxified UI. What is the motivation behind
this, and what is the best workaround?
This UI does a scriptaculous drag-and-drop of items from a first div
(div1) over to a second div (div2), which triggers the contents of div2
to be updated to reflect the drop. No prob, thus far. But then...

AudioCodes MP-104 MGCP?
Greetings;
We are trying to get Asterisk up and happy at our site-we tried VOIP
using Sphere about a year ago, spent a *boodle* on expensive hardware
and services from a local "expert", but it never was happy.
I'm brand-spanking new at VOIP, and I've learned a *ton* getting
Asterisk breathing in the last couple of days. I have three Polycom
Soundpoint IP 500 SIP phones, which are all working wonderfully, when
talking to each other. Voicemail seems happy, too....Now to get it
talking to the outside world.

Asterisk SIP attacks and sshguard
Hello,
We had been seeing SIP-guessing attacks on our Asterisk server here.
While it wasn't that hard to write a once-a-minute cron job to spank
the lusers, that runs once a minute and creates little spikes in the
usage and I/O graphs, and is slower to respond than I'd really prefer.
I felt that it'd be much cooler to get something more comprehensive
put together. We don't use fail2ban because I don't like having to

feature request / question?
Occasionally we get a user who decided they need to pop their account 3
to 4 times a second... usually I just disable their account and shout
"no!", but now I have someone trying to do it repeatedly with an invalid
username so I don't know who to spank. =) Before if this happened I
would block the IP and wait for someone to complain... dovecot doesn't
make that very easy, or at least I don't see how.

40TB File System Recommendations
Hello All
I have a brand spanking new 40TB Hardware Raid6 array to play around
with. I am looking for recommendations for which filesystem to use. I am
trying not to break this up into multiple file systems as we are going
to use it for backups. Other factors is performance and reliability.

Firewire question (Centos 4.4)
Assuming I have a firewire card with a supported chipset, is there
anything special I need to do in order for the kernel to recognize the
card? Shouldn't kudzu "wake up" and configure the card when I boot up
after installing it?
This is a brand spanking new 4.4 system and a supported Agere chipset
firewire card. I'm having trouble tickling devices connected to the
card. In particular, I'm trying to mount a firewire external DVD device.
Lspsi shows the following so I *thought* the kernel found the card:

8-15 TB storage: any recommendations?
Hello everyone,
This is not directly related to CentOS but still: we are trying to set up
some storage servers to run under Linux - most likely CentOS. The storage
volume would be in the range specified: 8-15 TB. Any recommendations as far
as hardware?
Thanks.
Boris.

The lone PC in Raleigh
Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Raleigh area Ruby users Meetup.
It was very interesting and very informative.
I did feel a bit out of place when we noticed that of the 11-12 people
there, I was the only one with a PC laptop. The rest were shiny macs.
Ah well, I need to replace this thing soon, and now that BootCamp is
out, I really have no more excuses. This way I can test
