Installation problems on old IBM server
I'm trying to install CentOS 4.2 on an old IBM x300 server, but it hangs during the boot from cd. The last entries I can see before it dies are the two "agpgart" lines. I've been playing around with bios settings (video settings and serial settings since the serial driver is the next thing going on in the kernel) and boot params (noapic, acpi=off etc) but I just can't

Large partition problem
I really hope someone has a clue on this one.... :) I've got a 2.2TB array mounted on a 3ware 9500 controller. I installed it last week ensuring that LBA was enabled and using gpt with parted to get the full size available on one array. I also think I chose reiserfs for the array. We then moved ALOT of data to the array. Problem now is that after a reboot LBA doesn't seem to be in

Hardware RAID Controller
Hi Everyone, Has anyone had any experience of using the Promise FastTrak SX4000 or SuperTrak SX6000 IDE RAID Controllers under Centos (if it matters I'm using version 4). I've seen it listed on linuxcompatible.org as working but would prefer to find out any first-hand experince before I buy. I'm looking to build a new mini server based on Mini-ITX and have found a great 1U case

Turning root partition into a RAID array
I have a CentOS 4.2 system that was set up VERY quickly following the demise of its former life as a CentOS 3 server - you don't want the full story, but it had to be done quickly to get a company up and working following a slight disaster involving an electrician, a portable appliance safety tester and a pulled power cable - anyway, here's where I am at... Everything is running fine but

Serial ATA hardware raid.
Hi everyone, I'm looking into setting up a SATA hardware raid, probably 5 to use with CentOS 4. I chose hardware raid over software mostly because I like the fact that the raid is transparent to the OS. Does anyone know of any SATA controllers that are well tested for this sort of usage? From what I can tell from googling, this is more or less where RHEL stands: Red Hat Enterprise Linux

CentOS 4.2 with LSI MRSATA300-8X?
Just wondering if anyone is using CentOS 4.2 with a LSI MRSATA300-8X controller? I just got a new SuperMicro server with this controller, and the install works just fine, but it panics when booting after install. For all I know (yet), it might be a problem with the server itself, but I suspect it's the LSI controller that's the problem. I've just started looking into it, so I

Areca controllers?
Just wondering if anyone has seen performance tests on Areca SATA controllers? How good are they compared to LSI "X" series and 3ware 9500s? And last but not least, are the drivers included in the stock kernel? Regards, Harald -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

2.4 kernel on CentOS 4.1
Just wondering if anyone is running a 2.4 kernel with CentOS 4.1? I need to "downgrade" for compatability with a disk driver, and from experience I know this can be a HUGE problem with certain other distros... Problems with mod_auth_ldap module
Just wondering if anyone's using the apache mod_auth_ldap module with require directives other than "valid-user"? Reason for asking is that no matter what require statement (except valid-user) I try to use, apache logs "unknown require directive". According to the ldap logs it does lookup, and find, the user in question. Any thoughts? Config error or bug? Regards,

NFS over ssh problems
I've got a setup where I run nfs over ssh on several distros, and it's been working like a charm on suse, mandrake, redhat 7-9 etc, but I've been unable to get it to work on CentOS. First I set up ssh portforwarding using: /usr/bin/ssh root@<remotehost> -L 250:irc.dynip.no:2049 -f sleep 60d & Then I mount using the following params in fstab: localhost:/somedir

(Me Too ++: I''m running into the same issues with a non-nptl DB4 and rpm on rhel4) And making it even more interesting: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/release-notes/as-x86/ "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 will no longer include support for LinuxThreads. Therefore, applications that require LinuxThreads support must be updated before they will be able to

Recommended hardware for a firewall/router?
Not really a CentOS specific question, but I hope it's ok... I've decided to buy a server to use as a firewall/router instead of the usual Cisco box, simply because I've come to love Firewall Builder and would like to put all my subnets into one firewall. There will be four gigabit interfaces in the box, one of which will be the internet connection (so this one interface will use

Loop Mounted Device Issue?
Hi. We are running xen-3.0-testing. We use loop back mounted file systems. The server we are running restarts itself/crashes. This seems to happen around setting up loop back devices. (>63 loop back devices seems to trigger a crash, but we have seen then with fewer devices mounted as well). We have swapped all hardware (bar the disks) to a new server. Same issue. I see no disk

Java Problems
Hi. This post follows on from: http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2005-04/msg00185.html And is possibly related to the bug referenced here: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do;:YfiG?bug_id=4335360 In summary: Java processes are doing odd things. 1) It appears that number values are mysteriously changing. e.g. if you look at the Hashtable error there is no way the
