broken controls in "Captain Claw" game
Hi. I want to play the old '97 game "Claw". It installs and runs, but strangly I can't jump in it! No matter what I use, keyboard or gamepad.
Normally, if you tap the spacebar, the character makes a low jump; if you hold the spacebar, he makes a high jump. However, under wine all jumps are low. Other movements work fine though.
I even tried to run the game under winxp guest in VirtualBox, but had the same problem. reassigning keys doesn't help.
I just don't get i...

Whitespace standard?
...#39;ve noticed that throughout the code there's quite a variety of formatting
styles, especially the size of TAB characters (4 or 8) and size of indents
(2 or 4). Is there any agreed standard for new code now?
Oh, and whoever wrote the ogg code must get an electric shock every time he
hits the spacebar. It's full of spaceless lines like
"for(packets=0;;packets++)if(pl[packets]==-1)break;"

Keyboards
...nt, it's got
an idiot menu key... *right* next to the right control key, and just where
the annoying keyboard design has it cut down from the oversize space bar

The result is that just trying to type, I regularly hit the thing. Does

Problems running Writeoutloud
Hi
I'm trying to get Writeoutloud (talking wordprocessor for dyslexics) running on an Asus Eeepc (Xandros) using Wine 1.0.
The prog installed reasonably well and after running Winetricks and fixing mfc42 I got the prog to boot. It boots OK and accepts keystrokes but when the spacebar is pressed and the prog attempts to spellcheck the word just completed I get an error message to say 'No spellchecker found'. (The spellchecker dictionaries are there in the Writeoutloud folder so that's not the problem)
Speech works with Writeoutloud 'echoing' words as you go...

Shades of Doom

times. At this point the game should start, but instead, I get the
rather cryptic message:
2 0 1 7
After that message the game freezes.
This game is for blind people, so if you get game sounds but no picture,
that means the game is working. If you press the spacebar you should
hear a gun firing.

Polar Plots

2.6.31 xenified kernel - not ready for production
Hi,
I just want to know if somebody use 2.6.31.4 xenified kernel (aka
OpenSUSE) in production?
We have been testing it on new Nehalem Xeon server for few weeks w/o
any problem.
But as soon we tried it on production machine - after several
production domUs started - hard OS failure.
We had to switch back to 2.6.18.8 - xen stock kernel.

Help on R performance using aov function
Hi,
I?m trying to replace some SAS statistical functions by R (batch calling).
But I?ve seen that calling R in a batch mode (under Unix) takes about 2or 3
times more than SAS software. So it?s a great problem of performance for me.
Here is an extract of the calculation:

only reaches to about 2 1/2 years, so the summary for 5 years will
return NULL.

It doesn't matter what the _line_in_ volume is set at just make sure it is
selected to record. then set the _rec_ volume, it's a different thing. I
use the interactive curses interface, select _line_in_ to record by
selecting it and hitting spacebar.
Assuming you have all that you'll need to open the soundcard at a
realistice sample rate. that is set in liveice.cfg
You can test the sound card end by using a different app (like rec) and
record a wav file and see if that works. If you can do that then you
problem is on the liveice.cfg en...

PAM_shield locking me out?
Yesterday I installed pam_shield and followed the testing suggested and
thought all was well.
today I find that I cannot get to my email account, I can login via ssh
okay (uses keys) but su and sudo give
segmentation faults. I am guessing due to the pam module causing a problem.
As I cannot do remote login as root and sudo and su use pam I appear to
have locked myself out.
Any words of wisdom

OS does not see all my RAM
My BIOS shows all my RAM, but when I boot up linux it does not see all the
RAM
I have two one GIG sticks of RAM, which show up in my bios, but when
typing free, I see that it only shows 256Megs.
Is there a way to specify the amount of RAM if linux cannot detect this,
or how can I fix/tweak the OS to recognize the amount of RAM
my OS is centos-4-x86_64 on a DELL 1850

I would like to study the dynamics of
functions using R (instead of mathematica e.g.),
i.e. the behavior of points under iteration
of a function.
So I tried (in vain) writing a function
myfunction <- function(f,n,x){...}
in order to compute f^{n}(x), f^{n}(x) being

Help with some screen command
Hi,
I want to connect to my server, run screen as root and then let
another person log in a root also and let him run screen and attach to
mine so he can "see" what im doing on the server. I haven't played
with screen a lot but it seems a nice feature to teach him how to
configure certain things.

So you recommend I run something like:
asterisk -vvvvr | tee ast-help.txt
Then when I need help on a command I request it on the command line, exit to the shell, edit (or whatever) the .txt file to find the command syntax I am looking for, then re-enter the asterisk cli? Kind of defeats the purpose of 'online help' doesn't it?

Problem with text entry fields (Mac OS X Snow leopard)
I use Wine for the windows programs I created with Clarion (Topspeed) environment. After upgrade from Mac OS X Tiger to Snow Leopard, I can't input any text in entry fields, using English keyboard layout. When I type something, I hear the beep sound, no letters appers on the screen. I even can't paste latin letters text using shortcuts, and the context dropdown menu doesn't appear
