XP Pro SP1a login problem
Wondering if anyone can help.
Here is my situation, I have a RH 7.3 machine running a compiled from source
rpm version of samba 2.2.7.
We have been a win98se (which works great) shop for sometime but are
migrating to XP Pro machines slowly.
I can get the XP machine to join the domain (and the machine account is
created in both the /etc/passwd and /etc/samba/smbpasswd file) but when I
reboot and

XP SP1a can join domain but not log in.
I've posted this before but had to leave town and wasn't able to follow
up... I'm still having this problem. Here is what is in the logs when I try
and log in.

Security warning with XP clients and 3.0.2a PDC
Hi all,
I hope I don't make a prat of myself with my first posting...
I've got a 'niggle' with Windows XP Pro (SP1a) clients and 3.0.2a PDC
(Slackware 9.1, 2.4.22). Joing a domain, logging on etc is working
perfectly but I'm getting a 'File Download' security warning when I try and
open an executable that's stored on the server. If I agree to open the file
it runs without a problem.
I had this...

[Fwd: Re: Windows XP client - intermittent 'network name cannot befound' loading profile]
Doesn't really resolve the issue, but in my case the problem went away
when using physical machines rather than virtual machines. The
environments are identical - RH ES 3.0 with Windows XP sp1a client (no
hotfixes or GPO settings applied). Thanks for everyone's help.

Samba 3.0.7 (from rpm) (problem happened with 2.2 as well)
I would post smb.conf, but I don't have it right now. I can post it later,

Clients:
WinXP Pro SP2 (problem happened with pre sp1, & sp1a as well).
I'm not sure if this is an issue with on the samba/linux end or the win xp
client end. The same problem happens on both of my win xp clients. If it
is on the samba end, I'm wondering if it's related to ownership/permissions
not being quite right. It is as if being admi...

WinXP Roaming Profiles - Samba 3.0b1 Problem
...eryone from win98 to winXP. So, I've
begun the process of setting up a test network to test samba with winXP
before the XP rollout begins. I downloaded samba-3.0b1 a couple weeks ago,
compiled it, and started configuring it. For the most part everything has
been a breeze. I have a winXP SP1a machine on the test network that
currently sees the samba server as the domain controller, joined the domain
ok, machine account was automatically created, test user logs in fine, runs
test user's logon script ok, test user is able to access the shares on the
server without a hitch. The on...

As I see, there are many mask options in smb.conf so I'm not really sure
wich would best fit with my needs (files 0600 and dirs are ok).
I also noticed that if I unset the archive tag under windows, it gives
me the good mask for files. Where's the relation?

SMB share/MS networking + Novell = major lag
...urs When You Open a Mapped Network Drive on a Novell
NetWare or UNIX NFS Server"
This delay is usually 25sec for any mapped drive or network printer
when accessed the first time since timeout. Painful for users who need
novell and samba shares. (Windows XP sp2, exists on Novell clients 4.9
sp1a, sp1b, sp2, & latest 4.91)
I have tried all of the registry "fixes" to no avail.

Windows XP SP2 (problem occured with pre-SP1 & SP1a also)
I can't tell if it's a WinXP problem or a samba/linux problem.
Perhaps there's something I should check with regard to ownership &
permissions on the files & directories in the profiles? It almost
seems as if there's some conflict (permissions/ownership/attributes?)...

The first try succeeded, but the second try was again the same result.
And we found out that this problem is bound to the computer not the user, as the

Altough there is a virus Scanner (CA Etrust Inoculan) with up-to-date signatures

scanners marking the computer clean.
Running "nbtstat -RR" didn't also...

WinXP registry problems on SMB PDC
Hi all,
I recently moved off of an ancient NT4 PDC to a SMB PDC running Samba
3.0.4-1 on a RH9 box. I had absolutely no troubles joining the domain, and
other than a few login quirks every now and again, it is stable.
I am, however, experiencing what I believe to be a permissions issue with
the user profiles... my own, included. I am unable to make registry changes,
most notably with

Perl on Windows XP for Rcmd build
Is there a recommended binary version of perl to use under Windows XP
for `Rcmd build'? The R FAQ for Windows just mentions "perl". I
think that Kevin Wang's document on R for Windows suggests ActiveState
perl but I have not been able to install it.
I am running Windows XP Professional on a laptop. The operating
system was originally Windows 98 then upgraded to Windows ME
