simple if statement
...work.
I have data on college students. I want to make a string variable
that has the names of the years. That is, when the year variable i is
equal to 1, I want to have a variable called years equal to
"Freshmen".
I tried this
years <- "Freshmen" if i==1
years <- "Sophomores" if i==2
and so on, but I couldn't get it to work. How can I get this variable to work?
Thanks,
BQ

[LLVMdev] Contributing to LLVM
Hello all,
I'm a rising sophomore CS/Engineering student in the US and I'm
interested in programming languages/ compilers.I think the LLVM would
be a great project for me to contribute to, both to learn something
and help the project. Unfortunately, I don't know much about
compilers, much less anything which would allow me to make a
significant contribution. I've started reading

Weighting Schemes Project for GSoC 2012
Hi all,
I am Prajwal, a sophomore Undergraduate student from IIT Bombay, India.
I want to contribute to Xapian through GSoC 2012.
Specifically I am interested in the Weighting Schemes project. I have
not yet taken any IR related course, but IR and NLP have always been my
academic interests. I want to learn more about these topics, and I think
that this is the best opportunity to do so. I

Yay! We need more compiler people in this industry. :)
This is actually a very good time to be getting

soccer
How can I get good at soccer in a short time period? I'm 15 years old and I'm going to be a sophomore. I'm thinking of trying out for the soccer team. I'm not trying to get on varsity or junior varsity, but I don't want to look like an idiot on the field. I just want to know how to get better at soccer over this summer. I have a soccer goal in my backyard. Just some passing

Yet another Samba How-to
Hi all,
Just wanted to let you guys know that I put together a "High Level"
Samba How-to that I believe is very informative for "Samba Beginners". I
wrote it using Novell's Suse Linux Enterprise Server as part of a book I
promised a few clients that I contract for - although I did write it in
such a way that it can be used for virtually any GNU/Linux Distribution.

Winelib Getting Started 1.3.2. Test Drive
Hello,
Would a wine developer please revisit this page
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/winelib-guide/winelib-getting-started and
modify it to have a step by step guide to take a Linux box without wine nor
winelib to a running notepad exe built by the newbie (and not downloaded)?
Or if you are a wine-user, please provide such steps to this list.
As a newbie, the statement "It can be found

[OT] *nix Server/Windows Client Tips and tricks
Sorry if this is too off topic, but one of the things
that happens when you use a *nix box is you have
opportunities to do some nifty tricks with shell
scripts and whatnot to help maintain your network.
Sometimes, this comes at the expense of using the
tools that come with some windows software and is
the result of necessity. Other times, this comes
because the "nifty" tools that come

Did DHH have a suit on?
So I''m wondering about the origin of "ActiveRecord" and "ActionPack" and
the like in Rails.
I''ve always thought that perhaps DHH found himself in a suit one day
(maybe he had to attend a friend''s wedding or something), and as long as
he had the suit on, decided to lapse into a one of the barely lucid
frenzies that Marketing people are prone to when

Yager on ZFS
Not sure if it''s been posted yet, my email is currently down...
http://weblog.infoworld.com/yager/archives/2007/10/suns_zfs_is_clo.html
Interesting piece. This is the second post from Yager that shows
solaris in a pretty good light. I particularly like his closing
comment:
"If you haven''t checked out ZFS yet, do, because it will eventually
become ubiquitously implemented
