semi-OT: t-bird mime type on .pdf attachment is wrong
...he mime type was all/allfiles, though the name ended in .pdf. I've searched via the config editor, and I've been googling, and not finding anything. (I just *adore* the current google: I have +"all/allfiles" in the search terms, and in the para it displays on a hit I see "all somethingorother", with the word "all" bolded....) Anyone got ideas? I've looked in .thunderbird/<blah>.default/mime_types.rdf, and everything looks good in there. mark

rsync and ~/.wine
Hi All With winetools 2.12 and the 2004-10-somethingorother release I'm finally able to 'use' wine with some industry specific little applications. [THANKS Joachim for making other's hard work so useable! I've been wanting to do this for ever and never got it to work previously. ] So, I've installed wine, winetools and a half d...

* and answering machine
I'm using * at home and I planned on having * let the answering machine in my kitchen to the "general" voicemail getting. However, about 6s into the call * will hang up the line. I found a post about OHT somethingorother, so I can probably work around it, but I'd like to know what's happening and if there's a better way around. Thanks! -- -M There are 10 kinds of people in this world: Those who can count in binary and those who cannot.

firefox and IronPort
...s not support RFC 5746, see CVE-2009-3555 I'm told they're running Cisco's IronPort. It appears the patch came out a year and a half or so ago. However, I also found a post where someone, apparently running on Windows, couldn't get to a site they needed to, either with IE 9 or FF10.somethingorother, until they downgraded. The support folks report they can get there, from Windows boxes. I've tried Mozilla's workarounds, in about:config, but no joy. My ff is up to date, including both patches from last week, and as those were critical, I'm very loathe to downgrade. a) Is anyone...

Just need to vent
...nths. Why should I care about speed of reboot? That matters on someone's laptop, but the rest? Or the annoyance with NetMangler, that in 7 is not only noisy, but keeps wanting to do stuff with wifi... on a wired workstation, and I have yet to figure out how to shut it up. Or systemctl restart somethingorother, that gives *ZERO* warm fuzzies while running, just nothing, and you have to run another command to find out what happened. Or the non-plain-text configuration files, which are just *wonderful* NOT when you're in linux rescue. Just because you *can* do something does not mean you *should*....

metaprogramming in controller: accessing instance variables
...nhancements::SubList sub_list ''Note'', ''incomplete'' and have the sub_list method create all the methods needed to support the sub_list ui.. Where I am running into trouble is that I want the meta-programmed functions to have access to the instance vars (ie: @somethingorother or @params) just like the hard coded ones I had in the controller to begin with.. I''ve tried accessing via: instance_eval, instance_variable_get, eval.. all no good. I have a file called "sub_list_system.rb" in the lib dir: module UIEnhancements module SubList d...

selinux
...g execmem errors with java, among other things. This *seems* like something that should be covered. I looked at the policy (selinux-policy-targeted, and it's 2.4.6. Googling around for the error, trying to find what's hopefully a boolean, or a role/etc solution, I saw an FC package with a 3.somethingorother release. Now, I don't know if that related to fedora, or if that relates to an selinux release. Does anyone know? Are we, with CentOS, that far behind with something like this, which isn't even a port, but a policy? mark, tired of crap in my logs

Why are hplip and hpijs always so back dated?
My fully patched CentOS 6.5 system uses: hplip-common-3.12.4-4.el6_4.1.i686 hpijs-3.12.4-4.el6_4.1.i686 hplip-libs-3.12.4-4.el6_4.1.i686 My wife's printer becomes supported at 3.13.somethingOrOther and the current release is 3.14.something. Why are we so far behind? I realize that I can download the latest, uninstall the RPM versions and compile and build and install the source copy. If I was going to follow that route, I would prefer to build an rpm and install it normally. I have been...

Wine Ubuntu 10.04 Eve Online freeze crash whole system
[background] I had Ubuntu 10.04 loaded from a CD. CD failed to directly install, instead required that I go into the live session from the CD and then install. Loaded eve online with all those funny command codes you never see in windows like PPA:wine-somethingorother, and put in winetricks as well. used winetricks to install core fonts and d3dx9 set to opengl orm = backbuffer and all that stuff. installed eve online. Eve online started, but had a grayscaling or solid color overriding textures and details. so planets were straight 00ffxb blue or whatever. th...

Shoulda issue: no more "should have_instance_methods" ?
I''m using Shoulda. After copying the code here.... .... http://joshuaclayton.github.com/code/2009/07/14/should-act-as-list.html.... into my test_helper file so I can test acts_as_list, I came across issues. For one I realized I had to get rid of the _ between the "should" and "have" in past cases, but here, I get this error when I run my unit test:

RJS page.delay timing issues
Hi. Has anyone ran into issues with the timing of page.delay. I have been testing in firefox, for the most part, and it seems that there is no reliability on when the page.delay timings kick in. What happens is that sometimes it will work fine, and the countdown looks great; other times it will just jump to the end and display everything at once, other times it will be jerky. I''m on a

Postfix and choice of RBL
Hi, I'm managing several mail servers running CentOS 7, Postfix and Dovecot. SpamAssassin is filtering mail nicely, but I'm considering using RBL (blacklists) to take some load off the servers. General question to those of you who use RBL. Which lists do you recommend using? Cheers, Niki -- Microlinux - Solutions informatiques durables 7, place de l'?glise - 30730 Montpezat Site :

Active Record: Prepared Statements?
Hello all, my first project is on it''s way, and I am loving it! But, and that''s a big BUT: Active Record does not use prepared statements! How is that? Everybody is bragging about performance and the most obvious tuning measure is missing. Ok, I don''t know, if MySQL can even do them as I am using Postgres, but still. I started looking at the code and it is not
