Yes, good to keep up to date, but like you, I don't think updating will
fix this problem.
If you actually have files that are owned by 'Administrator:SOME_GROUP'
on Linux, then you I would suggest you look at them using 'ls' with the
'-n' switch. I think you will find that they are not owned by
'0:SOME_GROUP_IDNUMBER'

Recycler problem
Hi folks,
I have Samba 3.0.10 with SuSE 9.1 running and a problem with the
recycler feature of Samba.
Following setup:
- User A deletes file F1 in directory D
- Samba produces file .recycler/D/F1
- D has permissions -rwx------, F1 has permissions -rwxrw-r-- (owner A)
- User B deletes file F2 in directory D
- F2 doesn't show up in .recycler/D
So all files User B deletes in directory D are

Maxtor NAS share problem
I have a network accessible (192.168.2.97) Maxtor Shared Storage drive
that I want to use to backup the Linux (Slackware) systems on my private
LAN. I can "smbmount" the drive okay on my Linux systems, but when I try
and use rsync to do a backup rsync fails with a message about failing to
change owner.
Digging a little deeper into the problem I find that the
directories/files on

problem with Samba upgrade
Dear Sir,
Recently I've upgraded our Samba installation. After then I find that all
WinXP workstations cannot logon to the server. The official HOWTO mentioned
this problem and suggested resetting the SID using "net setlocalsid ....".
But this does not help in my case. The SID of our server has not been
changed. So I've to go to every workstation for rejoin the domain. This

RFC: Splitting up the file{} type functionality.
The file{} type can do all of the following:
* manage single files
* manage directories
* manage symlinks
* manage recursive file copies
The intersection of all these bits of functionality makes it difficult
to understand exactly what is going on when you''re new to Puppet, and
even experienced users often don''t know how combining symlinks/content
management is going to work.

Hi,
for quite a while (most of the time using samba 2.0.3) I had some
shares configured roughly like this:
[global]
...
writable = no
[some_share]
path = /some/where
write list=@some_group
create mask = 0664
directory mask = 0775
The intention is, that "some_share" should be readable for
everybody, writable only for the users mentioned in "write
list=". At least with samba 2.0.3, that's also how it worked.
(Unix permissions grant write access, of course...
