We're constantly experiencing problems with Windows with regards to viruses and stability issues. Recently, we lost all our data and had to re-install. May you please help us in flawlessly porting this application so that it can run on Linux both on the server and clien...

R-beta: [WIN95] Running R from the shell
Is it possible to run R soley from the shell? I'm evaluating necessary fixes to R and XLispStat (and eventually SAS and S-PLUS 4) for running as subprocesses to Emacs (NTEmacs) for ESS. Currently, I lose control of R when running via Emacs; is it possible to "remove" the windows? (all, or all but the graphics...

Kodi crashes when trying to browse network
...tls links against trousers. Fedora's gnutls pulls in trousers through dlopen(), but CMake is pulling in libtspi as a compile-time link and the linker is using read_data() from libtspi over the Samba copy. Versions 17.x of Kodi used autotools and didn't pull in libtspi. Version 18 relies soley on CMake. I have worked[1] around the problem by filtering out "tspi" from being added to the linker libraries in Kodi's CMake macros. Kodi no longer crashes. Viable using purchasing sip lines
...ers for PSTN access. I am curious about the following: - How practical is this? The idea of terminating pstn calls to across the Internet which is an unguarenteed medium concerns me. Even if our access to it is quazi stable T1 data type of access. Do any of you do systems where this is soley the method used for incoming calls from the pstn? If this is done are there things to look for in a SIP provider, as in their presence on the Internet latency ..etc? - What are the major advantages? I know some places provide all you can eat plans which could be seen as a plus and some oth...

Improving packets/sec and data rate - v1.0.24
Hi, We've been running tinc for a while now but, have started hitting a bottleneck where the number of packets/sec able to be processed by our Tinc nodes is maxing out around 4,000 packets/sec. Right now, we are using the default cipher and digest settings (so, blowfish and sha1). I've been testing using aes-256-cbc for the cipher and seeing ~5% increases across the board. Each Tinc node

If you're using a drive 2TB or smaller, and an MBR, rather than a GPT, you can *only* have four primary partitions. To make more, one of those must be an extended partition, and you can create additional partitions in

Table mail.users doesn't exist (using built-in default iterate_query: SELECT username, domain FROM users)
...ct trying to use the defined working mysql auth instead of using the built-in default? The howto doesn't say how to override this, at wiki2.dovecot.org, and I didn't know the expire dict wanted to lookup the mailbox table; I thought it only wanted to lookup the expire table and use that soley for deleting messages as all info needed was stored, in the expire table, by the expire plugin on message delivery or copy. selective utmp logging
i have a maintenance smb account (not guest) logon every hour to check and report various things. this causes a log in utmp for every machine i have, my utmp is getting rather large soley on the maintenance logons. what i would like to do, is deny logging of an smb connection if the username is equal to the maintenance user. my first thought was smbd/session.c but im not sure on the struct or if there is a better way. something like : if (vuser->user.unix_name == '...

Testing failover and recovery
...of the timestamp copies in each of the servers is ahead which is simpler but sometimes both the timestamp files have added data at end that the other doesnt have. To the questions: * Is it so that from a design point of perspective, the choice in the glusterfs team is that one shouldn't rely soley on glusterfs daemons beeing able to recover from a faulty state? There is need for cluster manager services (like heartbeat for example) to be part? That would make experience C understandable and one could then take heartbeat or similar packages to start/stop services. * What would then be the r...

Improving packets/sec and data rate - v1.0.24
...peers. That seems to have actually decreased the perf across the board by around 2% (but that might just be due to fluctuations in the network, I'm not entirely sure) One of my iperf3 tests is between 2 c3.large AEC2 instances in us-east. I'm able to get ~556Mb/s over the internet. Going soley over the Tinc network though, that drops to 158Mb/s. For instances in the same region (I'm testing in Ireland, Oregon, and Virginia) to instances within that region, I'm averaging around 26% over the bandwidth being availible over the tinc network versus over the internet. Is that % overh...

Interesting observation
I have an interesting observation which I thought I'd pass along to save other people from spending time trying to 'fix' it. One of my clients uses Charter's so called "business phone service". They provide 'analog' phone lines over IP. In general, they've worked OK. End users were saying that the phone are "cutting out" at times. What

...B, C and D can talk to each other on Softphones. A,B,C are are all Windows XP machines, machines D and S are linux. This has to include A talking to B and ultimately conference calls with potentially all parties. Machine S is my firewall/router providing NAT services to clients C and D (based soley on my own IPTABLES script) but is ALSO the machine I plan to put Asterisk on (it can therefore bind to two interfaces, with separate configurations for each if I so desire). If appropriate, I could install a STUN server on S. I would prefer if media traffic between A and B avoids using my WAN...

How to GSSAPI/Kerberos authenticate with Dovecot [formerly Where is krb5.keytab or equivalent?]
...but he doesn't exist > in /etc/passwd and if I wanted to use this user with Dovecot, I could. > > Rowland Right, dovecot does not need the /etc/passwd now that I've implemented gssapi authentication (it did use it before with the PLAIN auth method). As I said, that entry is there soley for Sendmail/procmail to locate the user's target email folders. If sendmail could AD authenticate I wouldn't need /etc/passwd at all. I'll definately check out that RFC2307 to see if that would takes care of the sendmail issue and I'll post back my findings. And before anyone ask...
