comparing fields within a record
...t for a while. I'm looking for a way to get a function to go through a data frame line by line, compare fields, and produce a result, kind of a transform and an if statement combined (I tried to put them together and it didn't work). So, consider data Sales: House number Inspected Sold 1 9/2/2011 10/10/2011 2 9/4/2011 10/20/2011 3 10/31/2011 8/28/2011 4 8/3/2011 11/1/2011 I want to find all the records which were inspected after they were sold. Ideally, this code...

Calculating percentages across multiple columns
I have the following data and am trying to find the percentage of bid values purchased for that price. So let's say I have a bid of 5 and it's sold 2 times for $3 and $5. Since the original bid was $5, the percentage of times that that bid value results in a sold purchase AT that specific bid level was 1/3 because of the three time where the bid was three, it ended up being sold for $5 one time. So I'm wonder how to generate that info in...

ISDN/SS7 book?
...how to write a channel driver or something; I just want to know more about the possibilities and what's really sent back and forth. I was told the book "ISDN and SS7: Architectures for Digital Signaling Networks" by Uyless Black (ISBN 0132591936) was a good choice, but this seems sold out. Does anyone know about another book about the subject? thanks roy

Geek Squad UPS Systems
We are interested in using Nut on our Federa 6.0 servers. However, our UPS systems are sold under the name "Geek Squad" (sold through the Best Buy chain of department stores). I'm pretty certain Geek Squad does not manufacture these units and they just rebrand them. Does anyone know who makes these units or what they are compatible with in terms of driver level protocol? The...

DECT SIP phones
Hi folks: I know it's come up a few times before, but I need some more detail. I'm looking for a SIP DECT (cordless) phone for North American installations. I've heard only of the Siemens Gigaset S450/C450 phones. Apparently these aren't sold for use in NAm, even though they're supposed to be legal (in the United States, anyway). On top of that, I understand they have some annoying issues anyway. Can anyone suggest a solid alternative DECT SIP phone that is available in North America? Cheers, -Stephen-

Vintage Attrition Curves
...here is what I want to do (not sure of the best way): 1. Track accounts by vintage (i.e., the month of the date of sale). 2. Forecast total accounts at a given time utilizing 1. and attrition rates. So, for example, I have a vector of accounts: a <- c(346, 742, 447); 346 represents accounts sold this month (i.e., 0 months on book), 742 represents accounts sold last month (1 month on book) and 447 represent accounts sold 2 months ago (2 months on book). I also have a vector of monthly attrition rates ('h' below refers to monthly hazards): h <- c(0.06, 0.04, 0.05, 0.03, 0.03, 0....

OT: hardware: blackmagic video capture cards
...one able to connect but us. And we've already got some perfectly good cameras that run BNC. The reason I'm back to looking is the BT878 cards we have work fine... on older, non-Dell servers. Firmware updates? What are those? A few years ago, I tried tracking down the manufacturer... who got sold, and sold again, and IIRC, sold again. I tried contacting the final owner, and got no answer whatever. So, we were looking for a newer capture card. These Blackmagic are PCIe; I think the BT878's are PCI, or maybe PCI-x, and personally, I think there's an issue in the chip Dell uses on the...

Compact, fanless appliance?
Hello For those SOHO customers (ie. at most, a couple of POTS/ISDN connections and simultaneous SIP calls) who'd rather not use a big, noisy PC to run Asterisk, I'd like to offer an alternative that has the following features: - not old hardware sold on eBay, ie. it must be up-to-date hardware sold by a company currently in business - compact, silent - has room for a 2.5" hard-disk, but if not, must provide a CompactFlash plug - ideally, room for a PCI card, possibly laid down with a riser to save space - total cost (shipping + VAT) < 2...

I just retired a TrueNAS (the iX Systems "enterprise" version of FreeNAS, on hardware they sold pre-configured), and I don't have a lot of nice things to say about it. The hardware they sold was just SuperMicro, so nothing special (and with the standard SuperMicro problems). There are some good people at iX, but I wish I hadn't had to deal with them so much. -- Chris Adams <linu...

Palm OS port
hello all, At my workplace, our colleague Mukesh has just completed a port of speex 1.2.1 to Palm OS. He had to write a couple of mathlib functions, but the trunk remains unchanged. It works quite well, I was wondering if there will be any interest in this port in the distribution. - farhan

One more thing: the patch changes the solis driver language to Portuguese. Are these units sold outside of Brazil? At some point, if we start supporting more drivers that are sold regionally, it might be good to use gettext so that people see driver messages in their native language, but when debugging, they can switch to the POSIX "C" locale and get English messages without recomp...
