Is SUNWhd for Thumper only?
I read Ben Rockwood''s blog post about Thumpers and SMART (http://cuddletech.com/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=993). Will the SUNWhd package only work on a Thumper? Can I use this on my snv_101 system with AMD 64 bit processor and nVidia SATA?

RePartition OS disk, give some to zpool
I''ve got knee deep into learning how to use Opensolaris and zfs, and I see now that my goal of home zfs server may have been better served if I had partitioned the install disk leaving some of the 60GB to be added to a zpool. First, how much space does a working OS need. I don''t mean bare minimum but to be comfortable and have some growing room (on the install disk)?

How to resize ZFS partion or add a new one?
Hi, I have the following partions on my laptop, Inspiron 6000, from fdisk: 1 Other OS 0 11 12 0 2 EXT LBA 12 2561 2550 26 3 Active Solaris2 2562 9728 7167 74 First one is for Dell utilities. Second one is NTFS and the third is ZFS. I am currently using OpenSolaris 2009.06 installed on the partition 3#. bug :zpool create allow member driver as the raw drive of full partition
IF you run solaris and opensolaris ?for example you my use c0t0d0 (for scsi disk) or c0d0 (for ide /SATA disk ) as the system disk. In default ,solaris x86 and opensolaris will use RAW driver : c0t0d0s0 (/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0) as the member driver of rpool. Infact, solaris2 partition can be more then one in each Hard Disk, so we also can use the RAW driver like : c0t0d0p1 (/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0p1) ,c0t0d0p2 (/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0p2) as the member driver to create a new zpool : Morpho at egoodbrac1:~# zpool create dpool raidz c0t0d0p1,c0t1d0,c0t2d0 This command can successful c...

I'm getting the following error message when I try to install the library: Error: package crf was built for sparc-sun-solaris2.6 Is there any way to convert the library for different operating system (...

sharing a ssd between rpool and l2arc
Hi, as Richard Elling wrote earlier: "For more background, low-cost SSDs intended for the boot market are perfect candidates. Take a X-25V @ 40GB and use 15-20 GB for root and the rest for an L2ARC. For small form factor machines or machines with max capacity of 8GB of RAM (a typical home system) this can make a pleasant improvement over a HDD-only implementation." For the upcoming

ZFS on a 11TB HW RAID-5 controller
Hello all, I am a complete newbie to OpenSolaris, and must to setup a ZFS NAS. I do have linux experience, but have never used ZFS. I have tried to install OpenSolaris Developer 134 on a 11TB HW RAID-5 virtual disk, but after the installation I can only use one 2TB disk, and I cannot partition the rest. I realize that maximum partition size is 2TB, but I guess the rest must be usable. For

JDK 1.0 port to FreeBSD
Announce -------- I have ports of the JDK 1.0 using Green threads, pthreads, and uthreads. This port I'm releasing uses Green threads and is robust enough to recompile itself correctly. Installation ------------ 1. Grab ftp.javasoft.com:JDK-1_0-solaris2-sparc.tar.Z. 2. Grab freefall.FreeBSD.org:/pub/FreeBSD/LOCAL_PORTS/jdk10.tar.gz. 3. Untar the solaris binary distribution. 4. Move aside bin/ and untar the FreeBSD distribution. 5. Install the pdksh port. Running the JDK --------------- If your JDK directory is rooted at <jdk>, you need to s...

Compile SSH static on Solaris 2.7 (64Bit)
I like to compile ssh-3.0.2 on Solaris 2.7 with 64 Bit support in static mode. But I get a fatal error. The compilation with shared libraries is working very fine.
