ON 20060327 and upcoming solaris 10 U2 / coreutils
...external tools, but some assumptions on file system primitives, header
definitions, etc may need to be updated for "Solaris 10" as these
people may already think that Solaris 10 has been covered in their
port. See, I cleverly linked this to the U2 release mentioned above.
Just waiting for Sol10U2 and hoping that all these issues are fleshed
out before then.

Supporting ~10K users on ZFS
...e I currently understand, the general advice would seem to be to assign a filesystem to each user, and to set a quota on that. I can see this being OK for small numbers of users (up to 1000 maybe), but I can also see it being a bit tedious for larger numbers than that.
I just tried a quick test on Sol10u2:

ZFS-0313 and Build 36
...uld have it, we''d though of sing 2GB USB sticks as well as the iPod 60GB drives just for a mini SAN-type ZFS pool.
Seems a lot of things are set for B36, yet we saw the demo on an older build (33?). Comments were passed back on if we''d get ZFS-final by Sol10u4 (late summer) or by Sol10u2.
The ZFS demo shows off an impressive filesystem - yet widespread adoption is needed before migration of heavy investments in high-availability solutions to ZFS is seriously considered.
I''m looking forward to see ZFS maintaining a large pool of 332TB - 40PB of storage with compression on...

Performance problem of ZFS ( Sol 10U2 )

I deployed ZFS on our mailserver recently, hoping for eternal peace after running on UFS and moving files witch each TB added.
It is mailserver - it''s mdirs are on ZFS pool:

DTraceTools Update
Is there any work on keeping DTraceTools up to date with the latest snv builds. These scripts are pretty useful and help get a novice dtrace user like me doing useful work quickly.
Specifically the tcp stack tools like tcptop and tcpsnoop don''t work with later OpenSolaris builds.

Some performance questions with ZFS/NFS/DNLC at snv_48

ftp.se.debian.org) and have run into some performance issues.
We are running SX snv_48 and have run with a raidz2 with 7x300G for a
while now, just added another 7x300G raidz2 today but I''ll stick to old
information so far. Tried Sol10u2 before, but nfs writes killed every
bit of performance, snv_48 works much better in that regard.
Working data set is about 1.2TB over ~550k inodes right now. Backend
serves data to 2-4 linux frontends running Apache (with local raid0
mod_disk_cache), rsync (looking through entire debian trees ever...
