UV fastpath after Crossbow
...th skips the GLDv3 processing, that won''t
be available.
I don''t see a solution for this except to document this restriction.
2. VLAN kstats won''t work.
If we enable UV fastpath over VLANs, packets would go directly between the
lower VLAN stream and the IP stream over softmac, the VNIC (vlan) kstats
won''t be updated.
This could be work around by changing vnic_m_stat() function, to add up
the legacy VLAN kstat (e.g., kstat of ce1000).
3. Performance of VLAN is not optimal
In the current Crossbow code, once a VNIC (vlan) is created, the
underlying mac is st...

CentOS 5 and Broadcom wireless
I've got CentOS 5 installed on my hp pavilion ze 5300 laptop and the
network configuration UI says my wireless NIC has been correctly
identified and assigned what appears to be the right Broadcom device
driver on eth1. However, the inteface doesn't come up.
Google doesn't find anything recent about using Linux with Broadcom
except for someone's passing remark that Ubuntu 7 beta

sysctl -p at startup?
I understand that the contents of /etc/sysctl.conf should be read and executed at system startup. However that never happens and I have to run sysctl -p after every reboot to get the settings I want.
This is happening on every CentOS machine and VM I have. I can see in the startup scripts that "sysctl -e -p /etc/sysctl.conf >/dev/null 2>&1"
is run at start up by the

I think in the end virtio can just block MAC changes for simplicity.
I personally don't see softmac as a must have feature in v1,
we can add it later.
What's the situation with init scripts and whether it's
possible to make them work well would be a better question.

bcm43xx CentOS5
...from the link on linuxwireless.org, altered
modprobe.conf etc.
Wireless now works but is *real slow* just for internet access (like
minutes for pages to load). ssh, ping etc all good and quick
I am wondering if it is because of the old version of BCM43xx that is
in the 2.6.18 kernel (never liked softMAC much) or if something else
is going on.
top occasionally shows me that Xorg is sometimes going to 70-80% of cpu useage.
The desktop is always really responsive and apart from the browsing
issue which is upsetting my partner loads then CentOS sems ideal for
this laptop.
I really don't want to...
