Errors on yum upgrade
During yum upgrade a couple days ago, I saw this:
Cleanup : kernel-3.10.0-229.20.1.el7.x86_64
35/64
warning: file /lib/modules/3.10.0-229.20.1.el7.x86_64/modules.softdep:
remove failed: No such file or directory
warning: file /lib/modules/3.10.0-229.20.1.el7.x86_64/modules.devname:
remove failed: No such file or directory
Should I be concerned about this? What could have caused it?

C7 and firewalld and ethernet bridge
Does someone have a link to a how-to-do-it with firewalld, not "disable

Maildir unreliability
Looks like maildir can't be used very realiably without quite a lot of
locking. Writing and scanning the directory would have to be locked,
but reading wouldn't (as long as the file hasn't been renamed which
would require scanning to find it). So much for "no locks needed"..
The problem is that opendir()/readdir() may temporarily not return some
files if there has been

Oracle and ZFS
Hi All ;
One of our customer is suffered from FS being corrupted after an unattanded
shutdonw due to power problem.
They want to switch to ZFS.
>From what I read on, ZFS will most probably not be corrupted from the same
event. But I am not sure how will Oracle be affected from a sudden power
outage when placed over ZFS ?
Any comments ?
PS: I am aware of UPS''s and

The first release candidate of the 9.1-RELEASE release cycle is now

5-STABLE softupdates issue?
Greetings,
out of fun and to investigate claims about alleged bgfsck resource
hogging (which I could not reproduce) posted to
news:de.comp.os.unix.bsd, I pressed the reset button on a live FreeBSD
5-STABLE system.
Upon reboot, fsck -p complained about an unexpected softupdates
inconsistency on the / file system and put me into single user mode, the
manual fsck / then asked me to agree to
