maps library for R?
Hi there, Does it already exist a library in R to draw maps (something like a Generic Mapping Toolbox, http://gmt.soest.hawaii.edu/ port). I've seen in an old R-help that Ross Ihaka once tried to port the S-plus map library (http://maths.newcastle.edu.au/~rking/R/help/99b/0832.html ). Anybody know if this package is available somewhere or if there is somebody developing a Mapping package for R. I'll might...

Accurate area map projections
Hi, Could any one point me to the projection, and parameters if necessary, that would show each country/continent with it's area accurately refelcted on the plot? E.g. aitoff vs. albers vs. bonne vs. cylequalearea vs. guyou - they don't all look the same to mee but some of the documentations suggests they are equal area? Of course this isn't my field, so I am largely guessing and am

PBSmapping problems with importGSHHS
...using xlim. If I change xoff to something besides -360 I get different sizes of plots that are all the color I am using for land. I have the following: Hawaii.GSHH<- importGSHHS(GSHHfile, xlim=c(-156.3,-155.92), ylim=c(19.45,19.5), xoff=-360) The GSHHS shoreline data is found at: http://www.soest.hawaii.edu/wessel/gshhs/gshhs.html Any suggestions on what is going on? Dampening the spline interpolation for contours
Hello all, I'm very new to R and am having some trouble with the results of the interp function. I'm trying to produce a chart roughly akin to a weather map with natural looking filled contours over a large region of the south pacific. I've got a list of points and values to be mapped to those points and I use the interp function as follows: tab<-read.table("data.txt")

model of fish over exploitation
Dear all, I have a serious problem to solve my model. I study over exploitation of fish in the bay of biscay (france). I know only the level of catch and the fishing effort (see data below) by year. My model is composed by the following equations: * the growth function Gt(St) = r*St*(1-St/sbar) with Gt the growth of each period t r intrinsec growth of the stock sbar carriyng capacity of the

resolv.conf rewritten every reboot. How to figure out who and why?
My machine has a static IP, with dhcp and IPv6 disabled. Every time I reboot, some process rewrites /etc/resolv.conf, including a comment about dhcpclient. The only package I have installed that shows up in "rpm -qa|grep -i dhcp" is dhcpv6-client-1.0.10-16.el5, and nothing in there is named dhcpclient. I'd like to figure out what software is rewriting this file and why. man 5

Secondary y-axis
Dear R Users, I have been trying to add a secondary y-axis to an existing plot. I thought this could be a trivial matter and have checked the Manual and Mailing List Archive to see If I can find a solution. It appears the suggested method by Uwe Ligges (fot from the Archive) did not work. I am getting an error message saying the "Error in plot.new() : axis style "d"
