Effect display of proportional odds model
Dear useRs, I very much like the effect display of the proportional odds model on page 29 (Figure 8) of the following paper by John Fox: http://socserv.mcmaster.ca/jfox/Papers/logit-effect-displays.pdf It really gives a very concise overview of the model. I would like to use it to illustrate the proportional odds mixed models we fit here for a project on Diabetes but I can't seem to reproduce the plot. Does anyone have code for the plot? Mayb...

Installing R cmdr
Dear John Fox, I am using Snowleopard with a Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I have installed the R console and followed your steps at: http://socserv.mcmaster.ca/jfox/Misc/Rcmdr/installation-notes.html but every time I try "library(Rcmdr)" it loads Tcl/tk infinitely. I have tried loading "library(tcltk)" by itself and it does the same thing. I have tried with X11 running to no avail. I have even tried downloading a snowle...

sem with categorical data
I am trying to run a confirmatory factor analysis using the SEM package. My data are ordinal. I have read http://socserv.mcmaster.ca/jfox/Misc/sem/SEM-paper.pdf. When I apply the hetcor function, I receive the following error: Error in checkmvArgs(lower = lower, upper = upper, mean = mean, corr = corr, : at least one element of 'lower' is larger than 'upper' Example: set.seed(781) q1 <- cut2(x...

one more Rcmdr problem
Hello, I'm using R 2.0.0 with the latest Rcmdr package installed from CRAN, on Windows XP Professional. When trying to copy some commands or results, either from the upper or lower text window, this causes Rcmdr to crash: "R for Windows GUI front-end has encountered a problem and needs to close" Did anyone have the same problem? I don't think it's my system, as it

Pearson corelation and p-value for matrix
Hi, I was trying to evaluate the pearson correlation and the p-values for an nxm matrix, where each row represents a vector. One way to do it would be to iterate through each row, and find its correlation value( and the p-value) with respect to the other rows. Is there some function by which I can use the matrix as input? Ideally, the output would be an nxn matrix, containing the p-values

help with polytomous logistic regression
Hi! I'm trying to do some ploytomous logistic regression using multinom() in the nnet package, but am a bit confused about interpretation of the results Is it possible to get the following quantities: I: maximum likelihood estimates to test for fit of model and significance of each predictor (I would like to produce a table of the following type) Analysis of Variance: MLE (values are

Teaching R - In front of the computer?
Dear R-Users, given you have been teaching R to students (grad level, mainly social science background, no previous programming experience, 80% know SPSS), what are your experiences concerning the style of teaching? Do you prefer to stand in front of the class like in "normal" lectures and you show them slides? Or do you you explain some concept (for example things like

how to create this design matrix?
Hi all, I have a multiple-linear regression problem. There are 13 columns of data, the whole data matrix is: n x 13, where n is the number of samples. Now I want to regress EACH of the first 12 columns onto the 13th column, with 2-parameter linear model y_i = b0 + b1 * x_i, where i goes from 1 to n, and b0 is the intercept. How do I create a design matrix to do the 12-column regression

multinom object :way of plotting??
Dear all, I'm fitting a multinom function to my dataset (multinom(outcome~age+K+D)) and I need to present my results on a poster. Does someone know a nice way of doing that? I think I saw in an archive that you cannot plot a multinom.object, is it true? Thank you by advance for your help, Cheers Camille

Seeking advice on "introducing R"
Dear List: This is in search of advices/opinions for a lecture presentation on R. I have this presentation scheduled on Saturday (16-October-2004); the topic is "introduction to R". The audience is a group of researchers and scholars who have either never used R/are beginning to use R, but otherwise have used a package called limdeb, and SPSS. There is also a request to cover Rgnumeric,

looking for 3D plotting with real-time rotation
I would like to plot points in 3D and then be able to rotate the plot in real time in order to understand the distribution of the points using the visual parallax that results from the rotation. The R-package scatterplot3d will plot in 3D, but I've not found a way to rotate the results in real time. (It also does not seem to get the projection from 3D to a viewing plane right.) The R-package
