VarBrul in R
Several years ago there were R implementations of a socio-linguistics analysis method called Variable Rule Analysis namely rbrul and r-varb. Both neither of the sites listed (in the method's WikiPedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_rules_analysis ) appear to be online any more (one was at UPenn and the other at Indiana). Does anyone know a...

...ta plugin is enabled only on the backends. I can parse the user mapping on the directors and split the calculation, one user a time, on the backends, but I feel I'm choosing a overly complicated path. So.... which is the right way to do this? Package to work with weight based data
Respected all, I am working on a socio-economic survey (named as National Sample Survey in India provided by National Sample Survey Organization, Govt. of India) data of individual as well as households. This is a sample survey where stratified random sapling method has been used to draw samples. The data set uses 'weights' to e...

spatial clusters
Dear all, I am looking for a clustering method usefull to classify the countries in some clusters taking account of: a) the geographical distance (in km) between countries and b) of some macroeconomic indicators (gdp, life expectancy...). Are there some packages in R usefull for this? Thanks a lot for your help, Dorina

I am using the semi-parametric model in order to assess the relationship of predictors to rate of occurrence allowing for multiple events per subject. The exposure variable ("ESHKOL") is the socio-economic of the neighborhood while adjusting for additional variables such as age, sex, etc. In addition each patient has geo- statics -code for his neighborhood ("stat_unit"). I ran an Andersen Gill model: Ag<-coxph(Surv(TStart,TStop,Status)~ ESHKOL+VAR1+ VAR2+cluster(id),data=recmi...

GLM with ranks as response variable
Dear R's, I have a survey where customers rank a set of 5 packages for a product, so the response variable looks like a d b c a c d b d b a c Predictors variables are 4 socio-economic parameters. I have modelled the FIRST choice of each subject as a multinomial model, similar to the housing example in MASS ch7.3, , but I would prefer to use the whole rank-set instead. Can someone give me a hint if a R-package exists for this type of analysis? Dieter Menne ----------...

adding variables to a data set/combining two data sets
I have a couple of data sets that I want to combine into one data frame. One set contains a number of records on individual observations and includes a geographic descriptor called dacode. The dacode is not unique in that table. The other table contains a number of socio-economic variables for each of the geographic areas identified in the other table. This second table also includes a variable called dacode and I have also used dacode for the rownames. I want to pull a number of the variables from the socioeconomic status data into the first table but I'm ha...

about mix type clust algorithm
Hi: I have tried to find the appropriate clust algorithm for mixed type of data. The suggested way I see is: 1. use daisy to get the dissimilarity matrix 2. use PAM/hclust by providing the dissimilarity matrix, to get the clusters but by following this, when the data set grows bigger say 10,000 rows of data, the dissimilarity matrix will be O(n^2), and out of memory will occur. random effects in mixed model not that 'random'
...t different schools, with schools acting as grouping variable for a random effect intercept. If I have no knowledge about the schools, the random effect assumption makes sense. If I however investigate the schools in detail (either a priori or a posterior), say teaching quality of the teachers, socio-economic status of the school area etc, it will probably make sense to predict which ones will have pupils performing above average, and which below average. However then probably these factors leading me to the predictions should enter the model as fixed effects, and maybe I don't need and...
