IAX2 sniffer and player
Hi all, I was wondering if there is any IAX2 sniffer and decoder. Wireshark can decode and play RTP streams using G.711, and Cain & Abel decodes and plays any kind of RTP stream. But I didn't find anyone that can decode IAX2 streams. Any programs?? Regards, -- Diego Quintana a.k.a. RouterMaN Ingeniero de las Telecomunicaciones Linux Regist...

Sniffer techniques
As the group knows, I'm having compatibility issues with a critical database application. It's been wisely suggested that I monitor the line to see what's up. Problem is: I've never done this before & suspect others like me are not familiar with these techniques. I did find an old LinuxWorld article http://tinyurl.com/yrjurx however I help thinking there is more on the top.

antivirus sniffer/scanner for networks
Is anyone aware of a package that can detect viri on the network & possibly alert when there are? Here is the scenario: Our network is utilized by guest users all the time, sometimes into the thousands. We see guests from all over with a variety of OSs & hardware, all of which, we have no control or say in that matter. I am looking for something that I can run in promiscuous mode and/or

New C7960 won't tftp?
Just received a new Cisco 7960 (not refurb, but brand new) and it won't tftp the initial config file (OS79XX.TXT) from an FC3 box. The 7960 does get an appropriate dhcp response including the tftp address. Using a sniffer, I see the tftp request being sent from the 7960 to the FC3 box, but the FC3 box responds with error code 4 (Illegal TFTP opertion) and an error message of "Request not null-terminated". The tftp request (as observed with the sniffer) does indicate the initial request is null terminated...

I verified the null passwd being sent from the Win machines by turning on the sniffer(ethereal) on the samba server and looking at the packets coming through. Initial silence during call
Hi all, I've got a problem where many times, there is silence at the first 1-2 seconds of a call. Then it clears up and it's crystal clear. I've not put a sniffer on it, yet, but I suspect that the media channel is still being set up. The server shouldn't be too overloaded. Can anyone give me some advise on how to solve/mitigate this problem? Mike.

Samba + e2compr = problems?
...ell 4.11 to Samba on RH6.0. AFAIK, the problem is loosely related to the one described in these lists where one get a bunch of smbd daemons running, while certain files remain locked and can be only unlocked by means of a reboot of the system. I could verify details on the problem by running NAI sniffer at my workstation while making the problem happen. It's reproductible 100% of times I try to do it and it happens in the following conditions: 1) I open the file (a ~800KB Power Point presentation) from a local disk and I save it on the network. The sniffer shows me that everything goes all r...

Program to ban sniffers
So I have been reading the ssh attack thread and finally want to ask about something. I doubt there is a program like this, but I would love to have a program that listens at common ports that I do not use at all...and only allow that program to listen to it, especially the usual ssh port (using a different one for real ssh)... That program would then, upon receiving a 'sniff' or

I can join the BDC to the domain successfully using "net rpc join..." , but when i enter wbinfo -t to check the trust relationship i get checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed error code was (0x0) Could not check secret I placed a packet sniffer on the PDC to see what was happening and captured the folloing RPM_NETLOGON communication between the BDC and the PDC (see attached ethereal dump file). It appears to fail when the BDC looks for an account of the same name as the my domain - CEL. The question is , Do i need to create a trust a...

asterisk security....again
...o not accept any calls from sources other than the registration server. Thats all fine now. But the question is how can anyone know the direct sip uri addresses of our customers. My guess is that someone has been sniffing my server's sip traffic. In that case what should i do to get rid of the sniffers? If you think there is another reason for that then please tell me even if you dont have the solution. Thanks -- Best Ragards Rizwan Qureshi VoIP/Asterisk Engineer Axvoice Inc. Rate limiting
I am trying to rate limit a particular user/ip''s news traffic and have added the line ACCEPT loc:10.5.75.253 net tcp 119 - - 1/sec:2 While this has slowed down the traffic, it has not throttled it to the point I would like. Yet with a sniffer I can see around 15 packets a second going thru. My T1 is close to saturation, and I would like to slow the news connection down to a trickle. I am using shorewall 2.0.13 Any pointers would be appreciated. ________________________________________ Steve Postma...

Dial via sip gateway?
I'm having a brain fart.... What's the proper syntax for dialing out via a sip g/w (Mediatrix)? Been trying stuff similar to: exten => _6X.,1,Dial(SIP/3091@205.22.93.1/${EXTEN-1}) where 3091 is alias for the port on the Mediatrix. Sniffer indicates * did even try the IP. Rich

Printing from Linux to Win98
...n a couple of things for me? 1. I am running Mandrake 6.0. When I start printtool, it complains that it does not believe Samba is installed. Why and how do I fix? 2. I ignore the message and setup the printer anyway. Print jobs appear to spool, but never get there. I've done a couple of quick sniffer traces and I see traffic, but I can't pinpoint the problem. I CAN print from a term using smbclient however. Any ideas? Thanks! -- John J. LeMay Jr. NJMC, LLC. http://www.njmc.com
