Error in SNIA spec wrt. SessionSetupAndX response when dialect is NT LM 0.12
Good evening,
On the bottom of page 53, section 4.1.2.2 in the SNIA spec
(http://www.snia.org/tech_activities/CIFS/CIFS-TR-1p00_FINAL.pdf), it
states if the dialect is NT LM 0.12 and extended security is off (I.e.,
use "traditional" NTLMv2/NTLMv2 authentication w/o SecurityBlobs), the
SessionSetupAndX response is as shown in section 4.1.2.2 with a word

Is NFSv4 dead ? Samba report from the SNIA SDC conference.
Chris Hertel just wrote up a new Samba Team blog

It's a great read for people who weren't able to

Hi jeremy, there was a very big hint in there ;-)

Using Access Control Lists with SMB2/SMB3 Mounts on Linux Clients
Dear all,
what is about the support for POSIX ACL in Samba protocol implementation of SMB2 and SMB3?
>From what I extracted from SNIA and SambaXP developer conference talks and as well as the official Samba Wiki,
support for POSIX ACL in SMB2 and SMB3 has been completely abandonned. Am I right?
If so, is there any other possibility to allow Linux Clients to natively access access control lists

I ran across a presentation from Michael Adam where he mentioned that the
SMB 3.0 implementation in Samba 4 supports "new crypto (sign/encrypt)". I
really want that to mean what I'm hoping it means...
(

In all my efforts, I can't seem to get this to work in the lab (access
denied error) or find any conclusive answer to it being supported up to
v4.0.3. This would include either where 1.) the...

Samba send SPNEGO if Extended Security is ON
I've checked the samba code (sessetup) and found out that samba always send spnego packet when Extended Security capability is ON.
(This can't be turned off/on ie. "use spnego = false")
Does it mean I can "never" connect to smb server that doesn't support spnego if Extended Security is supported by server?
Is my understanding correct?

mount.cifs is not working (smbclient does work), somekind of recursive content in mount-dir
Hi all,
When I try to make a connection to our windows server with smbclient:
smbclient //server/dira/dirb/dirc -U username -W workgroup
Password: *****
I get a working ftp-like connection to our data.
When I try to make the same connection with mount.cifs:
mount.cifs //server/dira/dirb/dirc /mnt/mnt_dir -o user=877790
dom=workgroup
Password: *****
I get a mount to a location which appears

NTLMv1 v. NTLMv2 ; more than one "identity" on a TCP connection

it complains saying already connected. But, nothing comes over the
wire, so it is purely a client-internal decision. In the world of NTLM,
would the same EncryptionKey be used to respond to the challenge?
Exchanging another set of NegProt's is not allowed according to the SNIA
spec.
thanks so much, happy new year, and here's to wishing for a peaceful
2003.

Am I nuts to attempt a VFS local cache module?
Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask this question.
I'm thinking of writing a module that intercepts Samba requests to keep
only a subset of a file store on a local server with the rest being
stored on a cloud. It would be an open source module similar to these
products:

Using GPO to mount shares on Linux
Hello,
I'm using a Samba 4 as domain server and I've a lot of Windows computers
that mounts shared drives on another server through GPO applied by user
groups.
Is there any way to do something similar on a Linux box, or I've to use a
local script?
Thanks!

Looking for a life-save LVM Guru
...ards are the same, some are total
junk. Many others get you vendor lock in due to proprietary metadata
written to the drives. You can't get your data off if the card dies,
you have to buy a similar model card sometimes with the same firmware
version in order to regain access. Some cards support SNIA's DDF
format, in which case there's a chance mdadm can assemble the array,
should the hardware card die.
Anyway, the main thing is knowing where the land mines are regardless
of what technology you pick. If you don't know where they are, you're
inevitably going to run into trouble...
