snatching calls
Hi,
Our current PBX (Panasonic) has a setting that enables users to "snatch"
calls ringing at other extensions.
I'm not sure snatching is a correct term for this so let me elaborate.
Let's say you sit in a room with five other people. Each one has it's
own extension. One person goes out. As soon as he leaves the room his
phone starts ringing.
The other guys in the room want to answer his phone for him and take a

Samba and Cups interaction
While trying to solve my printer problem, I have come up with another question
that Google is not helping me with. What happens to a print job after Samba
submits it to Cups? Is it 'finished' even though Cups is still printing it?
Is that why my users aren't seeing their print jobs, because Cups has already
snatched them and Samba assumes they are done? I would much rather if

call file ignored?
Hi list!
I'm trying to use call files to place outgoing calls.
I want to schedule an outbound call and want it to ring on my sip phone.
My sip phone is SIP/228 and the call should go out according to the LCR
rules as defined in the dialplan. I don't mind waiting for the call to be
answered on my phone so I don't need the functionality that my phone will
ring only when the call is

Trying to figure out why my Cruzer Micro 512"MB" won't boot.
Office Depot ran a deal with a Cruzer Micro 512MB (actually, around
488MiB) for about $20 after a rebate I may not see for months. I saw
the ad yesterday and stopped by pretty well first thing this afternoon
to snatch one up while they were still there since I've been having to
make do with two 256MB drives to hold all the data I neded since one
drive couldn't hold enough (though I must

Question about RAID 5 array rebuild with mdadm
I'm using Centos 4.5 right now, and I had a RAID 5 array stop because
two drives became unavailable. After adjusting the cables on several
occasions and shutting down and restarting, I was able to see the
drives again. This is when I snatched defeat from the jaws of
victory. Please, someone with vast knowledge of how RAID 5 with mdadm
works, tell me if I have any chance at all

Mysterious behavior
I had trouble with some tests for the survival suite last night that I
cannot explain.
Framework: Ubuntu Linux, R2.11.
For testing survival I have a separate directory and Makefile. I
pull everything into the local .RData, no packages, library, or
namespace. (It's easier to add test modifications to a routine in a
chain of calls).
A test of survreg + psline would fail because

NT PDC to Samba PDC migration
Hi all,
I read a few posts a while back from people who were trying to get this
done.
Has anyone succeeded in doing a transparent (or an
as-close-to-as-possible) migration of an NT4 PDC to a Samba PDC?
I know it entails stuff like snatching the passwords with pwdump or the
like, and importing them into smbpasswd/LDAP, and toying around with
RID's/SID's for the new PDC to make it look just like the old PDC.
I also remember there were issues with existing roaming profiles.
Can anyone offer refreshers?

Writing lgrindefs
Dear all,
I'm writing a lgrind definition for R. Lgrind is a program to produce

Icecast not streaming from playlist. (Newbie)
Hi all,
I'm new to the streaming audio thing, but have been a linux user for 7 or 8
years. Here's some background:
I work in a really EMI-nasty environment that prevents receiving radio
broadcasts. In order to listen to sporting events, local news, etc. I
planned to set up icecast to stream live audio snatched from a radio at
home, and listen to it at work.
I installed icecast,

ogg123 bug
Potentially nasty bug in current HEAD when printing the name of the file
being played (the "Playing: filename.ogg" bit), any % symbols in the name
appear to be printf parsed causing either junk to be printed or a crash or
both.
I noticed this when trying out http streaming as the url has %20's in it
for spaces in the file name.
Oh, and it still says it's rc2...

Dovecot Sieve scalability
Hi,
I just finished setting up a functional design with Dovecot+Sieve and it
works like a charm.
However I'm having serious doubts about the scalability of this. Here is
part of a discussion we're having here:
About Dovecot+Sieve.
What happens here is that your MTA is configured to pass _all_ email to
Dovecot which is configured as a LDA. In practice this means this in the

The project has been forked, not superceded.
Work on OggPCM is continuing, the team working on OggPCM2 is free to submit
their own draft but some are not welcome to continue work on OggPCM due to
their recent social conduct.

Custom ticks on x axis when dates are involved
Hi,
I have a set of irregular time series and i want to produce a simple plot, with dates on x axis and attribute value of y axis. This is simple enough but my x axis is divided automatically by ticks every 5 years. I would like to have a tick every year at January 1st. I am not sure how i can do that - i end up with something very close to what i want, but it is clunky and not very correct. I

A questiong about replacing my failing drive

what I am getting ready to do, and I want to see if I am going to run into

My HDA drive is failing (I can hear the occasional click from it and I am
seeing Smart errors, the transfer rate is slow but all my data is there).
I have 3 partitions on it, the /, /boot/ and my game servers (this is also

unpredictable behaviour
I see very odd results from rsync 2.4.7pre1, the latest cvs version (sept
12, i think was the last modified file).
We have a number of network-attached storage devices. 10/100 ethernet,
nfs2 mounted (under nfs3, they buffer deletes, and recursive deletions
fail). Usually, these are kept syncronized across
a wan by a nightly cronjob,
We have a few we keep in reserve, which we syncronize
