Can't access DNS from RSAT
Good morning all! I have two DCs, both running Samba 4.7.3. I have just joined the second DC to the domain. The second DC is replicating AD objects perfectly, I verified this by running "samba-tool drs showrepl" as well as using the ADUC RSAT snapin and adding a user to one DC, then switching the DC that ADUC connects to and verifying that the user was properly replicated. The DNS objects are alos replicating properly. I checked this by running "samba-dnsupdate" as well as by running nslookup, switching the server to the new DC and...

gpedit.msc as centralized policy for 2k/xp clients
...s it possible at > all? We use local (!) GPOs on our Win2k clients with great success: - log on to "master" workstation as administrator - create a link to the "C:\WINNT\system32\GroupPolicy" folder on your administrator's desktop - optionally add gpedit.msc to mmc (add snapin ...) - change settings in GPOs to fit your needs or your company's security policy (especially admin templates) - export and import on other workstations or clone "master" workstation Please bear in mind that LGPOs affect ALL local users and Samba domain users, including the local ad...

OT Windows policy question
...ext: With Nitrobit I can store the policy on the server (using mmc) and read/implement it at each login. This makes folder redirection possible and works. Doing this, I can redirect each "My Documents" to the respective home directory, once and for all. However, The Windows group policy snapin makes it easy to redirect "My Documents", but redirecting "Start Menu" and "Desktop" requires a local (machine) security profile. I wouldn't know what that is. Can anyone on the list please point me at a Microsoft Knowledge Base url that details what this is, and...

printer drivers from windows 7 MMC?
I found a fancy, easy (seeming) way to add printer drivers in windows 7 since the old methods don't seem to work anymore. if you run mmc, you can add a snapin called print management, which enables you to manage various things (drivers, forms, ports, and printers to be most important). Problem is, I can't figure out how to use the "Drivers" method to add drivers. I get a "Failed to add driver. Access is denied" error, can I...

samba4 PDC to BDC file replication
Hi, I have built two samba4 boxes, one as a PDC and the as a DC, all working perfectly. If I create a user through the mmc snapin then turn off the PDC, I can still login to the domain using the DC which is great. The problem is their files and ntfs permissions on BDC. I have assigned user and group rights using windows explorer to certain folders, i.e granted user1 full permissions to that folder The problem I have is tryi...

problems writing to profile share when updating from samba 2.2.3a to 2.2.5
Hi, we updated our samba 2.2.3a to 2.2.5 because of several printing problems. Now our Clients (win 2k & xp) can't write to their profiles share (the windows error-message was: "this file is used by another process", but there weren't any other processes from this user). In the samba logfile we can't see any write-attempt from the client. Our smb.conf: [global]

Storing GPC and GPT
Is possible to store the Group Policy Container (GPC) on a OpenLDAP? Is possible to store the Group Policy Template (GPT) on a Samba share? The idea is to manage windows desktop policies using the new Win200x GPOs without using an Active Directory. Any other hints? recommended procedure for mandatory roaming profiles for win7 with samba 3
Hello, I have a PDC and a File (member) server for homes and profiles (Samba 3.4.17). For XP clients I have mandatory profiles with all user shell folders redirected to their respective home share. Now I'm adding win 7 clients to the mix and I want the same thing. It's (almost) working but I think my procedure is a bit dirty (i.e. I use "windows enabler" to build my ntuser.man
