FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec, so "lossy FLAC" is like
"honest politician", or "fast turtle".

what player for Mac OS 8/9?
The software page's only currently maintained Ogg Vorbis player for Mac-people is the iTunes plugin that seems to be for OS X only.
Is there no player for Mac OS 8 or 9?

Stupid --delete mistake
Hi, I've a nasty feeling I know the answer to this post, but I'm gonna ask
and pray anyway :-)
I just made a rather stupid commandline ordering error and managed to delete
a whole load of data (mostly word files/some pics fwiw) with rsync -delete.
I know, I'm an idiot (and a big one at that). To make matters worse this
was off an ext3 partition, which from what I can find out

Why dup()?
Hello all,
My scripts, which read stdout from ssh, weren't seeing EOF from the
remote session.? It was being sent, but lost.? I tracked it down to the
following code, in ssh.c, at ssh_session2_open:
??????? if (stdin_null_flag) {
??????????????? in = open(_PATH_DEVNULL, O_RDONLY);
??????? } else {
??????????????? in = dup(STDIN_FILENO);
??????? }
??????? out = dup(STDOUT_FILENO);

Why dup()?
...ssh having two copies of the output descriptor, the
downstream program did not see that EOF (it's not EOF until both file
descriptors are closed.)? Now, irritatingly, I can't reproduce that.?
Now, the remote program closes its output, the sshd parent closes its
end of that pipe, but ssh smugly sits there, keeping output (both
copies) open until the remote program exits.? Clearly there is more
going on that just two descriptors to the same output pipe.
It's wrong; ssh should not absorb EOF.

[flang-dev] MLIR for clang
Hi Michael-
1. We intent to fork clang for MLIR at a particular release and develop. We
will mostly merge with the master as soon as we reach a good milestones.
Most of the development is expected to happen in github or some such
version control system.
2. MLIR is extensible and we are hoping that constructs like exceptions can
be represented in MLIR. As we dive deep into design we might be able

Securing database from your provider?
Hi.
If i had a RoR application dealing with very reserved personal
informations about my customers, if my hosting provider would like to, i
guess it would be easy for him to steal the data by simply peeking the
username and password inside the database.yml file.
Is there a way to hide the database password from indiscrete eyes ?
Thanks,
Marcus Ob.

A request from the CentOS Project
The CentOS Project seems to be having a problem within some of our
community interactive areas that we need to address.
As most of you know, the project provides CentOS software free of charge
and we also provide community areas like a Wiki, Mailing Lists, IRC
Channels and Fora for our users to interact with one another and allow
the CentOS community to provide support for each other.

ActiveRecord''s bundled Transaction::Simple namespace issues?
Hello all.
I''m working on a program that uses both ActiveRecord and PDF::Writer.
The latter requires the Transaction::Simple module, and ActiveRecord
contains a "built-in" copy of Transaction::Simple - but the namespaces
appear to clash, if I''m understanding things correctly. (I''m a bit of a
ruby nuby, so please excuse me if I''m misunderstanding this
