Netbios name resolution with DHCP
I have a network with RH7.2 (netbois name "server"), Mandrake 8.1
("Linuxbox"), Smoothwall ("Smoothwall"), WinNT ("di-bosco"), Win 98
("robertw" & "Nicole") x 2 and Win 2k ("DiBosco2k").
Smoothwall is the DHCP server.
Why would it be that all the Windows machines can ping to a netbios name, eg
ping server, ping Linuxbox etc, but n...

winbindd stays at 100% CPU having joined a domain
...intain the Cc list here as my
dear colleague is not subscribed to this mailing list. ]
Hello all,
I am trying to track down an oddity with winbindd. We're using samba only
to join a given domain -- so the config file is very minimal, as per:
[global]
workgroup = TEDDYBEARS
netbios name = SMOOTHWALL
realm = TEDDYBEARS.LOCAL
security = ads
password server = ad.teddybears.local
winbind separator = /
winbind enum users = yes
winbind enum groups = yes
Shortly after joining a domain though, winbindd will suddenly start using
100% CPU and sit there.
Attaching strace to this process shows not...

smoothwall is linux based.
m0n0wall was a BSD firewall that pfSense forked from back in 2004.

I have a Smoothwall server on my network and am running three network

packets from DomU on VLAN disappear
Hi,
I have a problem similar to the previous poster (thread: Virtual network of DomU''s), but apparently not with similar solutions...
Situation:
- two physical links aggregated to "default0"
- dladm create-vlan on default0 with several different vlans
- xVM DomU running linux connected to the same vlans
when trying to ping the DomU from Dom0, I can see with snoop (in Dom0)

Smoothwall Appliance in Xen
Is anyone here running Smoothwall Appliance as a VM in Xen? We''re
running it right now, but it''s running fully virtualized instead of
para-virtualized. Anyone know if it can run as a PV?
It crashed yesterday with only a 100 user sessions on it. Not much in
the log except:

Firewall/router system I use is pfSense:
https://pfsense.org/
It has nice web interface for configuration of everything, based on
FreeBSD (very slim, lightweight, small footprint). Has a lot what you may
want to have in router box, including VPN,... If OP

Considering you use mozilla-thunderbird 0.7. I suggest you try using the
spell check facility.
It might make your message understandable, and why run Tbird with Wine.?
Good luck with your new mailing list. BTW smoothwall is a firewall.

Bandwidth limiting and shaping
...t is looking for an solution to do bandwidth
monitoring and traffic shapping. I would like to use Centos if
possible, but I need somthing that has a GUI so they can easily make
changes and updates. It would have to be ip based or mac address.
What would you suggest. I have looked a Ipcop and smoothwall as
solutions so far.
Thanks

work because there's no way to know which domain the client is a member

Alternatively, has anyone else ever solved this problem in a more
cunning way?

Can't get cable connection working on virtual router machine
...to KVM and have a KVM CentOS 7.1 hypervisor running a few
VMs. I'm moving all my VMs from an ESXi host as I want to use KVM in
future. Most of my VMs are working except for one which is running a Sophos
UTM router (Sophos UTM is similar to products like pfSense

The host has 3 physical NICs which are configured on the Sophos VM as:
1) LAN (fixed IP)
2) DMZ (fixed IP)
3) WAN (which is directly plugged into a cable modem for the internet
connection and is configured DHCP).
I have imported the settings from the "...

Yes, a minimal install of CentOS is probably larger (less minimal) than
a specialized distribution.

I am using ext3 on Smoothwall Express 2 firewall,

The machine runs headless, without a monitor. On one

CentOS 4.5 and CentOS 5.0 News
Hi,
I use CentOS as a firewall/proxy/webserver/fileserver
in my small network. As the small-spec machine with
CentOS is heavily loaded/used I can't afford downtime.
20 GB, pentium II with only 128 MB RAM.
However I want to know the news on 4.5 is it due soon?
Can I gain more by running CentOS 3.x range on such an
old machine like mine?
Will CentOS 5.0 mean you need a minimum of 512 RAM?

proxy server - ipcop vs CentOS
I have purchased a used Compaq DL360 which I was going to use as a proxy
server. Presently, we are using a cheap box with ipcop which is working
fine but it didn't have much RAM (64MB), etc.
This new box we will want to run squid and perhaps dansguardian for
filtering (this is a non-profit company) and I'm wondering if I should
just put ipcop on it or would it be smarter/better to install

routing question
So far I have been used to using linux to provide simple routing from my
network to others using commands such as ip route add 192.168.1.0/24 via
192.168.0.4 etc and it has all worked perfectly.
I also use smoothwall GPL to provice vpn services, however I have hit on
a problem and am not at all clear on the way in which to proceed.
I now need to provide a route to services, the access to these is
provided by a router on a network on the far end of a VPN. the
computers on the remote network can see the serv...
