smoothest way to upgrade R, say from 2.6.1 to 2.6.2?
Like many software assemblies, R is updated frequently. Also, it creates its own release-numbered directory when it is installed. Packages get dumped into the subdirectory "library". I have a personal habit of storing documents related to R packages in the "doc" subdirectory. Here are my questions. (1) How do people manage an upgrade, from 2.6.1, say, to 2.6.2? 2.6.2 will

We need to change our AD domain
Hi All, As a result of a company restructure and name change we need to change our AD domain. I know that we can't change the AD domain name in Samba 4, so I'm looking at the smoothest way to migrate everything from one domain to another. Is there any (properly working) way we can export users, groups and policies from one domain and import them into another? I've spent a few months getting everything just the way we want it and would greatly prefer not to have to start...

WINE setup
Anyone have a preference as to which Linux installation runs smoothest with WINE? Redhat? Mandrake? Also, are there any packages to avoid installing with WINE? Any that seem to really help?

subtract a list of vectors from a list of data.frames in an elegant way
Dear R experts, I've realized that it might not be possible to define a negative SELCET statement in a SQL call so now I'm looking for the smoothest way to generate a list of what I would like from my large database by first pulling all the names with a query like this "SELECT top 1 * FROM your_table" (thank you Bart Joosen for the idea) and then subtract the variables I am not allow to pull manually ending up with a 'positive'...

a very easy question, how to extract the name of the response variable
This may not be the smoothest way to produce the result, but here is a two-step solution: first find the formula within the object created by the call to glm(): form <- qq["formula"] or equivalently form <- qq$formula then apply the function all.vars() to the result, and return the first element variables.i...

measure smoothness
I have 3 sets of Cartesian data, one is 'original' data and the other 2 are "smoothed"data. The smoothed data is the result of applying a smoothing algorithm to the original. One set of smoothed data is the 'old' algorithm and the other set is the 'new' algorithm. Does R have the capability of telling me which data is "smoother"? Example data (subsets

The smoothest way to migrate the domain off PC Netlink is to install a NT4 (!) BDC to suck down the user db, then cut the network between PC Netlink and the BDC, then promote the BDC to a PDC from which you can vampire the SAM. A colleague of mine has successfully done this for a 13.000 user domain. Volker ---...

[LLVMdev] llvm 2.1 announcement draft
...ich includes the high-level items. This release wouldn't be possible without many people in the LLVM community: building new features, reporting bugs, testing the pre- release bits, and contributing in many other ways. Tanya (our release manager) deserves a lot of credit for this being the smoothest and best release so far, as well keeping our releases coming out on time! If you have any questions or comments, please contact the LLVMdev mailing list (llvmdev at cs.uiuc.edu)! -Chris Previous Announcement (LLVM 2.0): http://lists.cs.uiuc.edu/pipermail/llvm-announce/2007-May/000023.html

Deploying my rails app to GoDaddy
So I''ve written my first real-world RoR app and I''m now getting ready to deploy it. Unfortunately, my client decided to use GoDaddy as the hosting provider and based on what I''ve seen so far from the web, it''s not really the smoothest or ideal hosting for RoR apps. There were several posts here that I tried to follow but they were kinda old (2008, 2007). Most of them are talking about the dispatch.fcgi being in the public folder. Well I tried searching my app for those and I found them in the ''vendor\rails\railties\disp...

migrate samba3 to samba4
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello list, I have centos 5 server running samba-3.3.7-1 using tdbsam, no ldap. I want to upgrade to samba 4 to implement active directory DC server. What is the smoothest options do I have? If I upgrade using RPM, I must upgrade to centos 6. If I upgrade from source, some libraries from centos 6 is needed. So, I must install new server, perhaps with new distro. If I have new server with samba 4 installed, how to migrate samba user and settings without rejoining to d...
