Issue / code smell in AssociationProxy
I came across an issue in my code and after a hard debug session I found something that smells. First the context of my issue. I have a AR object that has a polymorphic belongs_to currently tied to nothing, I want to dump it to YAML. record.to_yaml This raises the following exception: TypeError: wrong argument type nil (expected Data) from

NeXT Community wake up and smell the test cycle.
If no one replies soon on if this solves NeXTStep's incomplete mmap() configuration then I will start ignoring all whining about that platform.

This site may harm your computer - Google warning about cran website
This is extremely annoying (and it smells of rat). As of this time (1013 am ET), Google issues the following nasty warning: "This site may harm your computer" when I try to visit any of the CRAN package repository sites or CRAN task view. The funny thing is that Google's Safe Browsing Diagnostic page (it gives diagnostics about any page that it may contain Malware) does not seem

advice on a spec''ing best practice
i am in the process of converting the tests in two projects that i am working on (one rails, one ruby) to rspec. i felt like i was doing ok applying BDD and using rspec properly until i read a comment in another topic on the list from David (subject "long jumping out of code in specs"). In there it was said: --- Testing privates is a no-no, but testing that a public method on the same

''$'' placeholder naming can confuse your runner
Hi guys, I''m facing a strange behavior that smells like a bug. consider this scenario: Scenario: I''m cool Given that I am cool 4 times out of 7 and this step: Given("that I am cool $n times out of $n_total") do |n, n_total| ... end When running my story, this step is considered as PENDING. If I change the name of the second placeholder to $total, the step runs

Oh oh. Micro$oft just noticed VoIP
It will be interesting to see how many standards get broken, and how many proprietary hooks get thrown into the pot. The bean counters smell some money, and their OS franchise is waning: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/26/technology/26soft.html -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

Depot App Who Bought Enhancements
I''ve completed the chapter on Internationalization successfully, but found out just recently that the "Who Bought" function produces an error page that looks very ugly when someone enters a product ID that does not exist. My preference would be to design the app to have a list of hyperlinks presented when you visit the URL, http://localhost:3000/info/ that describes the list of

rpc_pipe_open_ncalrpc: connect(/run/samba/ncalrpc/EPMAPPER) failed: No such file or directory
This question has already been asked in the past, but there was no answer. The above message is logged quite often in /var/log/samba/log.samba-dcerpcd. This is a stand-alone anonymous read-only server. Is it something to worry about? It smells like samba isn't working properly. If yes, how can I fix it? If no, how can I stop samba from logging un-interesting messages? What dcerpcd is

IMAP folders showing no messages in Office 365 Outlook
I'm new to Dovecot. Using Dovecot IMAP with Postfix, everything works fine using Thunderbird. But with the same setup, no messages show in IMAP folders for user accounts created in Outlook, accessing exactly the same server as the accounts in Thunderbird. Dovecot version 2.3.7.1. Is there any configuration required that is special to support Office 365 Outlook clients? How to debug this?

I have the following code, which yields instance eval''s the block given: class Foo def bar(&blk) instance_eval &blk end def baz yield end end The effect of this is that self is reassigned: Foo.new.bar do # here, self is the instance of Foo # created by new end But normally self is the object in which Foo.new.bar {...} occurs. Project "Muncher" the next step in wine
Ok, It's a lame name but it was the best I could come up with after spinning around in a desk chair for a few minutes. Here is the general idea behind it. Once, in an interview, Steve Balmber, the CEO of Microsoft threw some standard MS FUD out about Linux being a poor choice becaue each distro tends to "mutate" linux and has no solid direction I thought "Wouldn't

DomU Kernel Mapping

Is it a python script or is it re-directed to Dom0 to do? Thanks. -Brian --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check outnew cars at Yahoo! Autos.
