smclient-excludes
Hello, samba-users,
I am using Amanda to backup WinNT-shares.
Amanda uses smbclient to generate smbtar-archives which it then writes
to tape.
As you all know there are various files on Windows-system-partitions
that don?t need to be on backup.
For example stuff like
pagefile.sys
System Volume Information
hiberfil.sys
and the registry files.
So there is a need to exclude files from getting

winbind use default domain = Yes
Domain joining happened succesfully, with net rpc join, but I can't
authenticate any user with smclient, and winbind doesn't work too. A
attempt to connect on localhost via smbclient fails with the following
message:
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I have tried to include other parameters, but nothing has worked. What
I'm missing?
Thank you.

How to grant access to file shares by AD groups that have spaces in their name?
...ess it. Any ideas what is wrong?
It works if I change the group to one with no spaces in the name:
[demoshare]
comment = Test share
path = /usr/local/samba/demoshare
read only = no
valid users = @INFINITY+jontest
When the group is specified as 'Domain Users', this is what smclient says when trying to connect:
$ smbclient -U INFINITY\\jdetert //mkejdev1/demoshare
Password for [INFINITY\jdetert]:
Connection to \\mkejdev1\demoshare failed - NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
$
and this is what the samba log file (at log level 3) says for the IP that smbclient was run from:

password problems on upgrade to 2.0.4
Hello,
I just upgraded to samba 2.0.4b from 1.9.18 on OSF/1 V 4.0
Everything used to work fine in 1.9, and everything works fine now, except
that one of our users can't connect to anything from Windows NT. I've also
tried to use smbclient from her Unix account, and get the error:
>smbclient \\\\clang\\public
>Added interface ip=128.104.25.251 bcast=128.104.25.255

security = domain does not work
...lpdc" just fine, so the PDC knows
about the print server, but the clients are prompted for a login and
passwd when trying to access the print server. If I create a suitable
smbpasswd file, I can login, so I see that the print server is in
"user" mode.
How can I tell using smbstatus, smclient, etc. whether the samba is
in domain mode? How can I tell why it doesn't appear to be?
Here's the smb.conf files:

Troubles with Network Neighbourhood
Hi ,
I've some torubles with smb server provided with Debian 3.0 Woody - I
can't see any machine in network neighbourhood, altought all machines
are loging and mapping resources shared by server correctly. What
exactly is needed to be installed with smb - any DNS or something like
this? Maybe the question is not too clever, but when I've had my server
on RH7.2 there was no such

Odd - some users can mount /home, others cannot
...users CAN connect to their /home other users CANNOT connect to their
/home and get the error 66 message.
All users concerned are in the same group and thus share the same gid.
I am aware of security stuff putting directories on 0777.
Setup is:
Win98SE
Fedora2
Samba 3.0.3-5
Funny thing is that a smclient -U username \\\\server\username
password works fine - so I can get a the data I need from the Linux side.
Error log reads as follows at log level 1:
[2004/12/16 10:14:59, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection(771)

Existing files don't show up in share, new files do
I am suddenly no longer able to see any existing files on one of my
shares, from my Windows clients.
I have a Linux server (Fedora Core 8) which used to be my firewall and
router as well as file and print server. There are two Samba shares on
it I have mounted on various Windows clients: my home directory and a
multimedia directory with my music and videos, etc. I mount the former
as H: on all my
