username maps and security=ads
I have been having problems with username maps and security=ads. I now have a solution (or at least a work around) that is working for me. I sort of stumbled across it, as I don't recall reading any samba docs that mentions the need to have the realm name in the smbuser file. Samba server is RHEL3 with samba-3.0.20 compiled from source authenticating against a windows ADS. Here is the

hi ke, **************************************************** Since you've compiled with default options, your smb.conf is located in /usr/local/lib/smb.conf . You should copy your working smb.conf for version 2.2.7 (/etc/samba/smb.conf) to /usr/local/lib. You should run ./testparm as well. *********************************** That's just what i did and the Result is the same! Is there a

Samba / automounter
Hi folks, in our group we're working with samba on a SunOS 4.1.3 workstation and about 30 wfwg and win95 clients for several time without any trouble (samba-1.9.16p6 release). Now i've installed version 1.9.17p2 and got the following problem: I can't reach directories on an automounted volume on the Server which is not currently mounted by changing directory to that drive on the

Performance problems? (kinda long)
Hello all! First, let me apologize if this is painfully obvious; I searched the list archives a few times and poked around the 'net, to no avail... I'm having a wee problem with Samba's performance (speed) on a Linux 2.1.132 server. Specifically, the server is working at about half the speed of an NT machine. The Samba server (running Redhat 5.2 w/ kernel 2.1.132) is considerably

update on browsing problems
Hi all: After a little more ad hoc testing (and looking at the log files again) I have a little more info, though not a solution yet. I'm starting to get the feeling that it's something obvious I've missed... After restarting samba, the nmb log shows this: 1998/12/16 13:23:41 ***** Samba name server RAMA is now a local master browser for workgroup IV&V on subnet

mapping usernames between Windows and Linux
My username is different on my Linux box than on my Windows box so I used the line username map = /etc/samba/smbusers in my smb.conf file and this file includes the line steve = steveb However when I'm logged on to my Linux box as 'steve' and use the smbclient command like this: # smbclient //<Windows computer>/Shared ... session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE it

Uncooperative Dos Share
I have a server running Red Hat Linux 5.2 with samba 1.9.18 installed (at least that's the rpm package). The server itself is mounting and sharing two SCSI cdrom drives - the kind that are capable of changing up to six cdroms each. The OS mounts the drives correctly. I can see the files. I have shared the drive contents and can map access to them over a Win95 network. I have set the

Password problems with Samba on Alpha system
We have tried a couple of versions of Samba on an DEC Alpha running Tru64. Most users can use this perfectly but a few get rejected at the password authentication, and get logged on as guest users. Machine is running NIS, and Makefile was generated automatically. Win98 and Win2000 machines have had the "plain text password" patch to the registry. Problem seems to lie on the server as

2.2alpha3 problems
I'm very puzzled by whats happening here. I've setup samba 2.2a3 acording to how it said to. Everythings looks fine. testparm reports 0 errors, all 10 of the samba services load w/o complaint, I can even get a list of shares/servers using smbclient -NL. Here's the output of smbclient -NL: [root@provo log]# smbclient -NL provo added interface ip=64.122.31.38 bcast=64.122.31.39

windows 98 and samba problem.
Hello, Whenever I reatart samba on my bsd or my linux machines windows 98 network neighborhood looses either machine, I've got samba set up as a wins server, and the 98 machine pointing to it, but this doesn't help. The 98 machine can see it's own shares, but not the samba server, any ideas? I'm running 98, freebsd 3.4 release, slackware linux 7.0 and samba 2.05 and 2.06. Thanks.

1.9.18p8 won't act as PDC
I'm running Samba 1.9.18p8 on a RedHat5.1 system. Shares are going cleanly, but domain logons are not. I have an NT box, but as it is for a dedicated app, not for servers, I simply shut it down while testing samba's PDC functionality. I'll turn PDC off on the NT box as soon as I get samba doing domain controlling. I recently posted this problem with subject line: Samba 1.9.18p7-2
