BUG: File locking and SMBmv
I suspect I've found a bug buried somewhere deep inside the SMBmv code; I have an application, Archicad, which will not allow you to file->save over the top of an existing file, unless you happen to be the (unix) owner of that file. Unix permissions are mode 664, users can otherwise manipulate the files as expected. I've attempted various combinations/ p...

Question about new Inherit Owner option
Apparently there's a new "Inherit Owner" option for smb.conf that allows you to configure Samba to set the owner of a new file or directory based on owner of the parent directory. That seems like a very useful feature! My question is, does "Inherit Owner" also work when you MOVE a file from one directory to another? In other words, if a file called

rename not working while all other things work?
Hi folks, I've got a serious problem with samba since I upgrade an stone-age caldera-box with a 2.0.x-samba to redhat-7.2 with 2.2.1a-samba. I can create, delete directories and files without any problems. But renaming them (i.e. by creating a new folder which has new folder as default) does not work. I always get an error, that the file does not exist. I am trying from a win2k-professional

Is it relevant that this shared volume is not local to the samba server but rather mounted over a 100BaseT NFS backbone? (using knfsd and nfslock as implemented in kernel 2.2.13ac2 and redhat-6.1 userspace)?? I know I had a devil of a time...

Symbolic link gets overwritten
Hi, Using Samba 3.0.1 on SuSE Linux (follow symlinks on) we noticed the following behaviour: A symbolic link to a file gets overwritten (replaced) by the target-file contents if the symbolic link is saved from a windows client. This is not what we expected, because a link represents the file, and so all actions executed on the link should actually be executed on the target-file, not the link. I

Problems with Word 200 and Samba 2.2.6
I'm hoping someone has some insight into a problem I'm currenty having, which is: No one is able to edit (in place) documents with Word 2000 on a samba (2.2.6) disk share. A user can open word and save a document to the share, but when they go to edit the document Word says "Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error". From Microsoft KB Q211632 it appears
