The research I've done suggests this may be a known issue, but generally with older versions of Samba. Hi all, I've been working on shell scripts that allow to manage ldap accounts (users, groups, machines). They are similar to the smbldap-tools but do not need PERL to work (and so on...) and are *very* simple to configure - they may be a good alternative. I can view all the settings but when I try to submit changes I get the following error showing up in the smbd.log file: smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root... Is this normal? I would think that Samba would check and see that I am a part of the Domain Admins group and allow the changes I have submitted but it doesn't want to allow anyone but root to access LDAP. I think this is a repeat of: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2509 Example 1 in that entry now works fine, but 2 continues to break 95% of the time. I'm happy to help narrow it further but I don't have the expertise to dive into the codebase myself. James.
