dear list On the samba.org pages there is an overview of Samba GUI's. I've recently (via a post on this mailinglist) discovered http://ldapadmin.sourceforge.net/ It looks very good. Anyone using it here? Experiences? A specific reason why it it not listed on the Samba GUI page? Regards, mj

Will I have any issues if I shift the 'passdb backend' and 'idmap backend' to point to ldapsrv? Can i do the above with the smbldap_conf.pm file untouched? These scripts should function much the same as the binarys shouldn't they? 1. If you add a user, the users group must pre-exist. No adding users and groups simultaneously. 2. If you do add a user the gidNumber is set to the default specified in /etc/samba/smbldap_conf.pm NOT the users group as specified on the command line with "-g". This HAS to be a bug. 3. Hy, I just install OpenLDAP 2.0 and Samba 3.0. (both from RPM). I used tools from idealx (found in src from Samba 3.0) to populate the ldap tree. My ldap is empty when i start, i just added index and samba.schema in slapd.conf. I used net rpc getsid to generate my domain SID and put in the smbldap_conf.pm with others options (dc, ou, dn etc.) I didn't get any error with this tool, it create 21 entries. I can view the users (Administrator, nobody) and Groups (Admins etc.) with the module "LDAP Users and Groups" from Webmin. But when i triy to add user with smbpasswd ou pdbedit i get...

I have checked my /etc/samba/smb.conf and smbldap_conf.pm files and nothing seems to be wrong. Do you have any idea why would samba try to connect to null "" instead of my fully qualified name? ...aded the new 8.3 (tgz format) ldap-tools from IDEALX today. When I run the smbldap-populate script I receive an error that it cannot find the smbldap_tools.pm file. This file was not included in the tar file. If I use the tools file from the samba 3.0.2pre1 distribution it is then expecting the old smbldap_conf.pm file which has now been split in favor of the /etc/smbldap-tools config. I do not know if the populate script is broken or a 'tools' file should have been included in the distro. (I did run configure.pl prior to trying to populate). Curtis Grote Memorial Hospital

...ouring the mailing list, I found out that I wasn't the only one with the problem, but it seems like nobody ever got an answer (publicly, at least). With all the configuration changes and tweaks to my server, somehow, somewhere along the line the domain SID got changed (or I never set it in the smbldap_conf.pm, a more likely scenario). In any case, once I discovered the error, I went through and changed the user and group SID to match the domain SID (from net getlocalsid).
