using smbadduser non-interactively
Hello All,
Could someone please tell me if there is a was to use smbadduser in a
non-interactive mode and just allow you to enter all of the
particular user information on the command line?
I need to set up a small script that will automate adding users to
the smbpasswd file so that they can login.
Cheers,
Lonnie

smbadduser error
Hi List,
I have a problem authenticanting some of the users into a Windows 2000 PDC
with Samba 2.2.5.
The thing is that I can add some of the users in the PDC as Samba users but
with some of them I can't, I run the following command and I get this:
# smbadduser lrodrigu:lrodrigu
ERROR: lrodrigu Not in passwd database SKIPPING...
#
But the user 'lrodrigu' is in the passwd database (/etc/passwd) so I don't
get it.
However, some of the users aren't in that file and I can add them as Samba
users...
It's weird, isn't it?

Can see Linux box, but no shares from windows
Can anyone provide me a few suggestions?
I installed Redhat 8.0 on my laptop. XP Pro on my windows box.
I am using Samba/SWAT at the moment as well.
I have the basic smb.conf that I took from the example folder and made no
changes except opening the public share. (unfortunately I am at work so I
cant show exactly what I have). I also added the workgroup = line under

win2k usernames with spaces
Hi all,
one of the win2k clients of my network uses an ID with
one space inside, e.g. "jack smith". I succeeded in creating a
Linux user with such a name, but have troubles in adding him to
the smb users.
Any suggestion?
PS Running RH 8.0 & Samba 2.2.5 When i had RH 6.2 & Samba ?.?.? the
trick worked out.
Thanx

Adding machine names
I'm having some trouble adding machine names to Samba. I've added a
user under linux for the machines that I need and they have a $ entry at
the end of them. I've also added a user entry for each computer with
smbadduser, all to no avail. Does anyone out there know of a good
source of reference material on this subject?
Thanks,

Creating Samba users?
I am a new Samba user - I just installed on Solaris 8 and (finally) got
smbd and nmbd running. Now how do you create a user in Samba? The
documentation provides tons of information about smbadduser and
smbpasswd except *how to use it.* Any help is greatly appreciated. For
example, how to I create a Samba "root" user if I am the Unix "root"
user?

How I got Samba 2.2.8a to run on OpenBSD 3.2 i386
...that. I log in locally, re-join, reboot, repeat ad absurdum.
Without the SRV record it would just not find the PDC at all. Yes, I've
applied the SignOrSeal registry hack. No, it does not help. Service Pack 1a
if that means anything.
Anyway.
Then I wrote two perl scripts for user management:
smbadduser - adds users dynamically (please use this only as shown in
attached smb.conf! logging is really necessary, considering the program's
non-quality)
smbchpasswd - quick 'passwd' drop-in (not used in attached smb.conf since I
since I wrote it have hacked the original 'passwd' to us...

Accounts/Passwords How does it work?
...ux users.
I want them to also be able to use the samba shares.. How do I easily
get there usernames/passwords for access via samba?
I have the following set;
encrypt passwords = yes
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
unix password sync = Yes
At present I manually add each one with smbadduser,
But that prompts me for their password.
I haven't a clue what their passwords are and I do not want to start
telling them that I have set it.
Is there a way to;
1/. Add/Import existing users without changing the passwords (IE: keep
them sync'ed whether they change them in linux, or in...
