saving from word & excel
hi,
we're using a samba-server over DSL using openVPN and the speed is very
good at browsing directories and quite OK at loading/saving files except
for word & excel where it takes about 20-30 seconds to save even a small
file.
which is no wonder because the following happens in log.smbd when i click
"save" in word, it obviously checks for a bazillion tmp- and lockfiles (

Phantom permissions -- where should I look ?
Using 3.0.28a.
I have a file:
-rw------- 1 lynda SMB_USER 89 2008-05-22 17:03 lynda@adviva[2].txt
Using "cp -a" I created an apparently identical copy except a trivially
different name:
-rw------- 1 lynda SMB_USER 89 2008-05-22 17:03 lynda@adwiwa[2].txt
Using vim I created a brand new file, with identical contents and
similar name:
-rw------- 1 lynda SMB_USER 89 2008-05-22

Directory access works, file access does not
Hi list,
I'm sure it's an old question but Google showed a lot of problem descriptions
but no answer to my problem...
I've got SuSE 9.0 with Samba 2.2.8a running on an athlon 2000. The
Samba-Server is member of a NT4-Domain, the Clients are W2k. The users can
browse the directories without real problems, it seems a little slow though.
But if one tries to open an arbitrary file the

To the server from the local disk 7 mins 38 seconds
Copying from and two the samba server from nt/win2k clients is okay, I
didn't get a chance to get figures for this :/
I saw a post similar to this suggesting that it was a NIC problem and
that it was in full duplex mode? Im not sure I could check this on a dos
client. any suggestions?
We are using a 10mbit dumb hub.
