HP DL585 G2 -- no nics
Hi folks,
I've just spent about six hours messing around with an HP DL585 G2
server trying to get CentOS to go.
This box is a dual-CPU with dual cores and 10GB of RAM total.
According to the datasheet, the POST screens, and the BIOS, it has
the Broadcom embedded NICs in it.
The problem boils down to the installed OS (4.4 x86_64) not seeing
the NICs. If you do an lspci on the system

pxelinux and SMP (fixed)
This morning I ran the "SmartStart" config for the DS360 I am
working with and looked at the OS selection options.or UNIX.
Seems if you pick UNIX, you get a bunch of different choices
including Linux... Both CPU's are detected fine now. Still strange
that it worked during a local disk load.. Anyway, thanks to those...

Stress Test
I have an HP Server w/ a Smart Array controller I need to test. I always
used to use Inquisitor for this, but the hd tests are flaking out on the
cciss syntax and I don't have time to dig into it, the machine is essential
and I need to know whats needing to be replaced asap.
Anyone know a live cd based stress test that works on SA controllers?
Thanks!

Proliant 5000 hangs on boot to 5.1 during install
Hi,
I have a Compuke Proliant 5000 I would really like to use FreeBSD on
When I boot to CD or floppies using 5.1 I get all the way to:
"/stand/sysinstall running as init on vty0"
but the machine then locks up hard.
When I boot to CD or floppies using 4.8 I get nothing. The machine
won't boot to a 4.8 CD (that works in another machine)
Any ideas on what to try next?
TIA

preferences in used Compaq Proliant DL380 G1 vrs DL380 G2 etc
greetings,
for those of you in the know, may i have some assistance in helping to make
better decisions in purchasing more used server toys to install CentOS on
please? :-)
in the Compaq Proliant Rackmount DL380 line, the one that looks like the
older 1850R is called a G1 meaning Generation 1 right?
and then the DL380 G2 is a redesign that is gray and just has 6 drive bays
up front correct?

flashing a BIOS on an HP server
Hi, folks,
Since I've gotten a total of one response in days on the HP forum,
maybe the collective mind here has an answer.... As I've mentioned in
other posts, we have an HP dl580 g5 that started throwing ECC errors.
But wait, it's worse: memory is mirrored.... And the thing is fully
populated with 32 DIMMs.
I took my best guess, pulled the matching set of DIMMs, and took two

EXT3-fs error
Hello friends,
I am experiencing some weird beheaviour on one of my computers.
I appologize for the laconic subject, but I really don't know anything
more than that. I'll tell the story in chronological order.
I have an HP server with five SCSI disks.
The disks are _not_ in RAID. I installed FC2 on one disk. I installed a
2.6.11.7 and used it for boot. The server runs some software

More than 2TB RAID...
Hi,
I just received a new server (HP DL180G5) with 12x 1TB HDs and I bumped into fdisks 2TB limits...
Since this is an entry level server, I can't use the classic HP bootable utilities to create smaller volumes et can only create a big RAID6.
I found out that: using parted, labelling it gpt and creating the partitions would do the trick.
But, what about grub? I read that it does not support

Kernel Panic on HP/Compaq ProLiant G7
Hello Everyone,
I recently installed CentOS 5.5 x86_64 on a brand new ProLiant DL380 G7. I have identical OS software running reock-solid on two other DL380 ProLiant servers, but they are G6 models, not G7. On the G7, the installation went perfectly and the machine ran great for about 2 weeks, when it just seemed to "stop". The system stopped responding on the network, and there was
