will C5.3 support a SmartArray 6i 'out of box', or does it need drivers to boot from this? I am advising someone else remotely and don't have the hardware handy to test.

pxelinux 5.01 chain.c32 hd0 not working on SmartArray P220i
Hello, I've been having a problem trying to boot from first hard drive via pxelinux 5.01 on a HP Proliant server having a SmartArray P220i RAID controller. On other hardware and VMs that i've tried it works. My config file looks like this: label localboot kernel chain.c32 append hd0 Is this a known issue or has anyone experienced this? Thanks, Andrei

ZFS Appliance as a general-purpose server question
A customer is looking to replace or augment their Sun Thumper with a ZFS appliance like 7320. However, the Thumper was used not only as a protocol storage server (home dirs, files, backups over NFS/CIFS/Rsync), but also as a general-purpose server with unpredictably-big-data programs running directly on it (such as corporate databases, Alfresco for intellectual document storage, etc.) in order to

PCI passthrough of cciss HBA
All, I would like to run the following issue past the list to confirm that my problem analysis makes sense or whether I missed something: We have a HP ML370G6 server with VT-x and VT-d enabled in the BIOS. It is equipped with two Smart Array HBAs - one connected to the HDD array (SmartArray P800) and one connected to an LTO tape drive (SmartArray P212). Both controllers use the same driver

Summary of hangind HP proliant
Quick summary of the Issue I posted a few weeks go about a HP DL380G3 server running RHAS21 that was hanging under heavy disk IO. Server is 2x2.8GB hyper threading Xeons, 6GB 400Mhz RAM. It has a built in SmartArray 5i card that was mirroring 2 disks for root, and raid5-ing 4 disk for /apps_data. A multi GB tar could make the box unresponsive for several seconds. Through put to both volumes

Problem detecting HP Tape Drive
Hello I do have problem using Linux with an external HP tape drive. The server platform is also an HP Server; the server is an HP ML350 G4, and the Tape drive is a HP Storage Works Ultrium 448 - 1U Rack-mountable. HP Ultrium documentation says two drivers should be automatically up, sym53c8xx for LSI SCSI interface "st" for tape and /proc/scsi/scsi should contain information about

Cannot boot after upgrading to Centos 5.1
My local centos mirror (ftp.crc.dk) failed to boot after having upgraded from centos 5.0 to 5.1 (i386). It just displays GRUB The cursor is positioned to the right of a space after GRUB, and no input is accepted. I've tried booting in rescue mode and run: chroot /mnt/sysimage grub-install /dev/cciss/c0d0 This completes without errors, but still it can't boot. It's a HP/Compaq

HP Hardware
At my university we use HP hardware exclusively. When we build CentOS our Unix SA is running several HP utilities. I am wondering what some of these utilities are, such as cmaidad. Is it possible to to use these HP utilities to monitor for disk crashes (similar to smartd)? Is anyone using native HP utilities for this purpose? TIA

bad I/O performance with HP Smart Array RAID
Hi all, I discovered lately that two of my XEN servers suffer from a really bad disk throughput - in domU as well as in dom0. All of them run Debian/Etch, Kernel 2.6.18-6-xen (orig. Debian) with XEN 3.2 (backported). The software versions seem to be ok for most machines: Lenovo A57 with S-ATA and (E8200, VT enabled): up to 90MB/s Shuttle, FB61 based, ATA-Disk (Celeron, no VT): up to

zfs? page faults
Hi, I have setup an old Compaq Proliant DL580 with 2 xeon @700MHz 2Gb RAM two SmartArray 5300 controllers and 12 drives in an array enclosure. I am running the latest opensolaris update bfu''ed from binaries since I could not build from source. I am controlling the drives with the cpqary3 driver (Solaris 10) from HP. Initially the array had 7 drives and I created a raidz zfs pool

Best practice preparing for disk restoring system
I'd agree with you John. I'm trying to get away from Amanda's unpredictability and go back to using scripts to drive dump (for ext2/3/4) and xfsdump (for xfs). Is there any easy way to tell rear to include xfsdump and dump capability? If the commands are there then its trivial to restore data. What I've done in the past is before the nightly backup write a small file to the

Hi, We've exhausted our internal capabilities as well as Sangoma tech support and were hoping someone with some expertise could help us with a pointer. Briefly, our issue is as follows. Periodically (several times an hour), we get either of the following error messages in our asterisk messages log. These correspond with dropped outbound calls on a one-to-one basis when the second error

udev rules for /dev/sd[a-z] ?
I have a third party application that I want to run a CentOS4 box that is expecting to access the generic SCSI devices through /dev/sga, /dev/sgb, etc. However, the devices set up by udev are /dev/sg0, /dev/sg1 etc. Does anyone know what syntax I could use to create a udev rule that creates symlinks sga -> sg0 etc. for each sg[0-N] device? Thanks James Pearson

CentOS 5.x and HP ACU CLI
I had to install C5 on a dev server for various reasons (legacy system support and so forth). This dev server is a HP DL180 G6, with a SmartArray P410 raid card... I've installed hpacucli via the RPM from HP's site, but its not finding the controller... C5 (64 bit) is using the default CCISS drivers for this card. # hpacucli ctrl all show config Error: No controllers detected.
