Configuring sendmail in a corporate environment
I have a stock CentOS 5 system as far as email (sendmail) is concerned that is on our corporate LAN. I am not trying to set up a mail server; I merely want our CentOS systems to be able to send out emails. This works as long as the recipient's domain is our local domain. Any email send to recipients that are not in our local domain get stuck in the queue: # mailq

slow sendmail going out
I am trying to find a way to "speed" up sendmail going out of my box. I am setting SMART_HOST. Dont get me wrong email does go out it just takes like 3-4 minutes to get there. When I do "mail xxxx at y.com" and send it the /var/log/maillog file shows the connection and shows the relay as [127.0.0.1]. Then it just SITS there for a long time. Then it picks up the mail and deliver...

quick FW question
I hope this isn't too off topic, but I'd like a quick solution to a problem. I have a small network behind a NAT firewall (FreeBSD of course) and I'd like to block/redirect all traffic from the internal network to the local mail server (same box as firewall) in order to prevent direct smtp requests to the outside world (mainly virus/trokan programs). I think I have it right in this

Sendmail Configuration Problem - 550 5.1.1 - User unknown Problem
...known error when I send the email to my company's email address. When I send it to an external email address, such as yahoo, the message delivered successfully. Of course, I'm doing the configuration behind a firewall. I'm using a relay too, and I did declare the relay host in 'SMART_HOST' in the sendmail.mc file and have also recompiled it to produce the sendmail.cf. I also restarted the sendmail service. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- telnet ana.boeing.com 25...

I should be good, but no. :) As explained by others, SMART_HOST is used for domains for which it has no information (basically, it can't find an MX or resolve the name). If you want to relay all mail...

CentOS 5 & sendmail configuration
I'm attempting to configure sendmail to relay outgoing mail to an internal smtp server. I found that the commented line in sendfile.mc that starts with 'dnl define(`SMART_HOST'... needed to be uncommented and a valid value inserted. No problem there, but when I attempt to 'make -C /etc/mail', I get WARNING: 'sendmail.mc' is modified. Please install package sendmail-cf to update your configuration. make: Leaving directory `/etc/mail' Researching...

dumb sendmail question -- how to get outbound messages to use "example.com" instead of hostname?
Hi List, I have a dumb sendmail question, and I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction (besides "sendmail list is two doors down on the left" ;-). One of our clients has a bunch of servers -- CentOS 5 -- that are on only a private network that's NATted to the outside world -- that is, those servers can initiate outbound connections fine, but don't

They have a dedicated support phone number (which they provided you if you are actually a #1 type customer - e.g. gigabit pro, metro Ethernet, etc.) In case you are a #2 or #3 type customer, you may want to use a smart host configuration - e.g. define('SMART_HOST','[smtp.comcast.net]') . For postfix, use relayhost = [smtp.comcast.net] . Now when you send mail to that relay it will relay it.
