Backing up OS drive?
I have one drive that I''m running OpenSolaris on and a 6-drive RAIDZ. Unfortunately I don''t have another drive to mirror the OS drive, so I was wondering what the best way to back up that drive is. Can I mirror it onto a file on the RAIDZ, or will this cause problems before the array is loaded when booting? What about zfs send and recv to the RAIDZ? -- This message posted from

ext3 efficiency, larger vs smaller file system, lots of inodes...
(... to Nabble Ext3:Users - reposted by me after I joined the ext3-users mailing list - sorry for the dup...) A bit of a rambling subject there but I am trying to figure out if it is more efficient at runtime to have few very large file systems (8 TB) vs a larger number of smaller file systems. The file systems will hold many small files. My preference is to have a larger number of smaller file systems for faster recovery and less impact if a problem does occur, but I was wondering if anybody had information from a runtime performance perspective - is there a difference b...

Saving data across install
I installed a Solaris 10 development box on a 500G root mirror and later I received some smaller drives. I learned from this list its better to have the root mirror on the smaller small drives and then create another mirror on the original 500G drives so I copied everything that was on the small drives onto the 500G mirror to free up the smaller drives for a new install. After my install comp...

A Call for a Smaller R Core Package
(Below is my idea on an issue that has troubled me for a fairly long time. I hope it's not viewed as trouble making.) A Call for a Smaller R Core Package This document suggests downsizing the 'core' package of R by taking out some specialized functionalities to form their own packages. I'll use string related functions as examples, because I happened to be troubled by them today. 1. The core is too big R is a function r...

Splitting a data list into smaller data lists
...3 4 9 2 4 6 3 9 1 1 7 0 2 5 6 3 8 and I need it to be split into something like this: X Y 1 2 3 3 4 9 2 4 6 3 X Y 9 1 1 7 0 2 5 6 3 8 I am thinking I need to write a loop because my data set is much larger than this (1000) and I need it all organized into smaller data sets of 5's. Can someone point me in the write direction? Size of plots in pdf files#can it be smaller?
...the pdf device, I get file sizes (on a Windows machine) of about 10 MB. When I then zip the files, I'm down to about 0.5MB, so the original pdf files were created with a lot of 'air'. I'm wondering why the pdf files are so large and whether there is an alternative to produce them smaller. Any ideas? Have a nice afternoon, Chris.

Making the size of bar charts smaller
Hi, Just wondering is there a way to make the width of bar charts that you create using R smaller? Also, a bar chart I created has a total number of 23 entries (with 2 different columns 14 and 9), how can I have the total number on the Y axis adding up to 23 and not the larger of the two columns? Hope this makes sense. BR Jack. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Making-...

What does "smaller than" comparison do on strings?
What's the logic behind the following, and where can I find any documentation about it? In particular, why are 2:9 - as characters - not regarded as being smaller than 10? # R-Code: a <- as.character(1:12) a < 10 # [1] TRUE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE FALSE Thanks in advance!
