Anyone done postgres replication with slony?
We''re going to start doing some postgres replication using Slony, and
I''m wondering if anyone''s already worked on this. I did some googling
but haven''t found much. What strategies have you used in replicating
your rails on postgres app?

near-realtime file system replication
Whats available for doing near-realtime master->slave file replication
between two CentOS systems?
Cronjobs running rsync won't cut it.
Ideally, I'd like something that works like SLONY-I does for Postgres
databases, where all file system block level transactions on the master
get replicated to the 2nd system on a 'as fast as practical' basis (a

MegaRAID lockups under 5.5 PRELEASE
Folks,
We have a pair of servers, each with an of Intel SCRU42X branded
MegaRAID controller installed. The cards both have battery backed
cache. The servers form a 2-node Slony cluster for PostgreSQL, with
each node having a single RAID5 array consisting of 3 live disks with
a hot standby disk.
About a week ago we upgraded FreeBSD on both boxes from a point on

replace astdb with a cluster-capable sql database engine
I've been searching the Internet for information
regarding the replacement of astdb with a modern sql
engine.
There are several reasons one would like to do this.
First of all, external applications have a hard time
reading/writing to the now-old astdb format.
Also (and this is what interests me most), the sql
astdb could easily be clustered throughout several
servers (I'm looking for a

replace astdb with a cluster-capable sql database engine (was: Re: asterisk-users Digest, Vol 44, Issue 22)
unix-odbc with Asterisk Realtime is one good way to use a different
backend DB than MySQL. I haven't heard of "bit rot" problems running it
over long times, but I'd like to if there are any. I'm particularly
interested in seeing reports of Asterisk Realtime backed by Postgres.
The problem with pointing dialplan DB functions like Set(DB) at
unix-odbc (or any relational

Is Dovecot able to use PostgreSQL to store mailboxes?
Subject says it all.
(I'm almost positive this is a FAQ, or that the information is online
_somewhere_, but I just spent 20 minutes without finding it ... sorry if I
didn't search hard enough)

centralized or decentralized puppet infrastructure
Hi All,
In my companies environment, we have multiple sites in multiple geographic
locations, sometimes with high latency between the sites.
I''m trying to come up with a solution that could provide puppet
infrastructure to all sites nodes.
----a few assumptions---
- puppet manifest / configuration is fetched from a centralized version
control system.
- store db is needed (ssh keys,

Some basic questions about getting the best performance for database usage
I''m new so opensolaris and very new to ZFS. In the past we have always used linux for our database backends.
So now we are looking for a new database server to give us a big performance boost, and also the possibility for scalability.
Our current database consists mainly of a huge table containing about 230 million records and a few (relatively) smaller tables (something like 13 million
