cross-subnet browsing problems
I'm trying to set up cross-subnet browsing using Samba on a Linux box
and a Sparc UltraEnterprise with Win95 and NT Workstation clients. I'm
using the Sparc as the domain master and also as the WINS server on the
108 subnet. The Linux box is the local master on the 46 subnet. Both
are running Samba 1.9.17alpha4. I can see the conversation between the
two samba servers and the browse

Where to put general utility functions?
Hi,
I have a bunch of utility functions. If I put them in
"controllers/application.rb" then they will be accessible from all
controllers. If I put them in "helpers/application_helper.rb" then they
will be accessible from all templates.
But what if I need to access them from everywhere - controllers, views,
even models? Where do I put them?

Relaying samba
I have a somewhat hybrid setup that I need some help with...
I have a main server running 3.0.28 and a satellite server running
3.0.26. They are linked via VPN. Right now we're using cifs to
communicate through the VPN, which is painfully slow.
Since the two servers are linux boxes, is there a more
bandwidth-efficient protocol that we can use between the two servers? NFS?

Dynamically limiting the number of outbound calls

using macros in the dialplan and keep a count of VOIP
calls. I believe that this a) difficult to maintain b)
can be difficult to dynamically adjust based on
parameters from the jitter buffer, round trip time,
and/or packet loss c) couldn't be "the best way to do
it".
Before I go slinging code, does anyone know of a clean
solution? Do other people need / desire this
functionality?
Our Setup:
Software: Suse 9.2 + Asterisk 1.0.7 (built from CVS)
Network: DSL measured to be 2 mbps up / 430 kbps down

Managing upgrades
...my professional
past, and always found upgrades to be somewhat non-trivial.
Transitioning from 0.24.x to 0.25.x was quite difficult due to some
fairly big structural changes. In general upgrading the puppetmaster
is easily achieved, being a single central box managed day-to-day by
my team, however slinging all of the nodes which are managed onto a
new version is decidedly less easy.
What techniques and tricks have people developed to aid this process?
For the current solution I''m deploying there will be a need to manage
a veritable cornucopia of different systems, including --

Strplit code
Dear R-users,
The strsplit function does not exist in S-plus and I would like to use it. How
could I reproduce the function in Splus or access to its source code?
Thank you in advance,

Problem with the image
Hi there,
A little problem has come up in my application.
I want a logo to be displayed right at the top of my main page, and it
is not working.
Instead, it gives me an image thumbnail which shows that the image is at
the right place but not displayed.
If somebody could help.
Thanks.

Using yum provider to install local RPM
Hey guys, puppet n00b here. I think I already found an answer for my
question here, but the topic was dated back in november of 2011, so I''m
hoping things have changed since then! Here''s the topic I''m referring to.

I''m running:
CentOS 6.3
yum 3.2.29

Hi,
Few subjects cause as many arguments as "which SIP client works best?"
on IRC #asterisk, voip forums, and probably the -users mailing list. I
have tried most of the SIP clients available in the last 5 years, both
with Asterisk and other platforms such as OnSIP.com, IConnectHere.com,
ZipDX.com and the venerable old FWD (in the days when that almost
worked). Speaking of ZipDX, we

How and when are the sound modules loaded at system boot time on CentOS 5?
I've been trying to work out how the various sound modules get loaded at
boot time on CentOS 5 - but I can't find anything obvious under /etc/rc.d/
CentOS 4 did this in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit - but there is nothing
equivalent in CentOS 5
Does anyone know how these modules get loaded?
Thanks

When is the maildir quota usages recalculated and written to the

I'm using 1.1.4, and I reset the quotas for my users by just taking

Improving asterisk documentation - sources and what the community can do
Hi All,
There have been a number of comments recently about a shortage of
documentation on Asterisk, so I wanted to cover briefly the documentation
options available and suggest what they are useful for and how they can be
improved...
Documentation sources:

ExampleGroup and SharedExampleGroup relationship(?)
I''m working on a series going over the source code for rspec, and I ran into
something interesting with ExampleGroup and SharedExampleGroup. I was
wondering if anyone could shed light on it.
[NOTE: I''m working through the code for my own edification in learning Ruby.
Ruby has some features that I think are incredibly cool, so I''m using a
concrete implementation (RSpec)

Wine CD-ROM on Mac OS X
Can Wine access DVD-RW devices natively on Mac OS X like it can on Linux? I was using Wine in Linux to run ImgBurn and it worked great, but I recently switched to Snow Leopard and I don't know how to configure this.
I tried adding the Volume that was mounted by Finder. I tried adding /dev/disk2. Neither worked.
I really like ImgBurn and do not want to abandon it if possible. Thanks.

Copying EAs and ACLs
Hello,
I am the guy behind the ext2/ext3 patches for Extended Attributes and ACLs,
and I've recently been asked about ACL support in rsync by Eric. Upon
investigating I found that you have an ACL patch against rsync-2.5.5 [1]. I
also found some other postings to rsync@lists.samba.org concerning rsync and
ACLs [3].
Are there any plans for finalizing an integrating that rsync ACL patch?
