strange xen memory calculations?
...l four domU''s I do not have enough memory, but for two, it
should work:
300 + 2*822 = 1944 < 2045
I don''t understand why xend thinks it needs the memory, how is this
calculated? I also set dom0_min_mem to 0 to stop ballooning at all, but that
did not helped either.
I am on sles10sp1 x86_64, using xen-3.0.4, the version that comes with the
system.
any hint is highly appreciated.
Sebastian

Can''t install Windows 2003 on SLES10SP1
I finally have a xen server to play with stuff that''s causing me
problems on my production servers. One of those problems is simply
installing Windows 2003. Here''s what I do:
Open virt-manager
set up a new install:
full virt
512 ram
20 gig sparse file
boot off /dev/cdrom
The install starts as you''d expect. When it gets to the formatting I
tell it to format in NTFS.

xen 3.2 network problems
Hi,
I try to get networking running with xen 3.2, but it seems I fail miserably.
I am on sles10sp1, with xen 3.2.0, and kernel rpm''s installed from SP2.
I configured in /etc/sysconfig/network the NETWORK_LIST:
NETWORK_LIST="bridge,0,default,00:DE:AD:BE:EF,192.168.8.13/24,dhcp-off"
but an ifconfig xenbr0 still shows the mac address of peth0
fe:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff.
Initially, I...

RE: Cannot Install SLES9-SP4 Para DomU on SLES10-SP1 Dom0
Hi Mark,
I had this same issue trying to install SLES9SP4 PV on to SLES10SP1
host.
You cannot do this. You can however install a SLES9SP4 FV guest.
If you want a PV SLES9SP4, you will need SLES10SP2.

xen networking troubles
...I want ot install xen, and divide the services into 4 virtual nodes. The
dom0 machine has three network interfaces, eth0, eth1, eth2. eth0 and eth1
are bonded together to serve the clients, eth2 is intended for the virtual
machines, to NFS mount needed remote filesystems.
I want to do this on sles10sp1 x86_64. This distri comes with xen 3.0.4.
The best thing I think would be if I create a bridge for each vlan, and then
let the domU''s connect to each of the needed bridges. But xen 3.0. does only
support up to three? (at least not enough) interfaces per domU, and
therefore this is not p...

Re: Adding a new virtual block device to a guest
Hi!
It seems i already have udev...
mydom0:~# apt-get install udev
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
udev is already the newest version.
mydom0:~#
I notice when i mkfs -ext 3 my new vbd with dd, it says it''s not a block
device.. i have a feeling im doing this wrong. can you suggest steps in:
1. creating a new block device
2. preparing it (mkfs)

Is this typical memory usage?
I have xen 3.04 running on SLES10SP1. It''s working great, but I''m
wondering if I have some memory issues with dom0. I have 7 domU''s, 1 is
win2k, the other 6 are win2k3.
I''ve had a lot of machines up and down with a reboot of dom0 in quite a
while. I''m wondering if dom0 has not given up me...

Live migration: 2500ms downtime
Hi there,
I''ve read the paper on Xen live migration, and it shows some very impressive
figures, like 165ms downtime on a running web server, and 50ms for a quake3
server.
I installed CentOS 5 on 2 servers, each with 2x Xeon E5335 (quad-core), 2x
Intel 80003ES2LAN Gb NICs. Then I installed 2 DomUs, also with CentOS 5.
One NIC is connected to the LAN (on the same switch and VLAN), the

Dedicate Nic''s to DomU''s
Hey all I''m new to Linux and Virtualizing. I''m trying to dedicate my nic''s to each virtual server. For instance, virt server A would use nic1 and virt server B would use nic2 and so on. I''ve been reading some stuff for this list and to tell you the truth I''m a bit overwhelmed. We are going to run SLES10.1 and Xen. I would appreciate any assistance.
